You are such a great sport. Hahaha. Proves to me you can have sky high kegs and something stll not look right. You are beautiful and these are unflattering. But you did try and you shared. Thank you

You're a great sport to try these on and show us. I actually like the wide legged crops with the untucked top. You look good. But if you're like me, you have to feel right in something, and if you don't, you'll always pass over it when getting dressed. So if you don't feel right, pass 'em up. Maybe you'll run across a pair with a lower rise that will hit your sweet spot, and you'll end up living in them all summer. The wide legged, high rise crops I bought last summer I wore all the time. I loved the ease and breeziness of them in our wretched heat and humidity. They are barely JFE. And that was just fine. I've got three versions coming to me from Angie's picks of a couple of days ago, hoping to find another pair that I can use to cover my shanks while beating the heat. And I'm with Angie: I don't see any weight gain. You must be carrying those pounds in your purse, because they aren't showing up on you!

Thank you for post - I have nothing new to add, but I'm in the camp that says #2 looks pretty good. I hear you on the joy of non-calf sucking. I recently bought some trouser jeans from BR that just feel good - because the leg is looser. I will probably not indulge the wide crop trend as I am 5'2", burn like crazy and don't have the footwear to support it.But I like it on you. Maybe try a drapier fabric, kind of palazzo pant but shorter?

#2 has potential, but it all depends on how much you want to work at styling that silhouette. In spring and summer I tend to put a lot more work on new and interesting stylings, whereas in the cold winter months I fall back on the same old, same old outfit formulas. The right cropped top and the right footwear will work wonders.

Janet, I too love the idea of wide crops and thought they might be an interesting change. My body type is much like yours so it's interesting to see you in these pants. I'm wondering if the problem is that they're just a bit too wide in the legs. I keep thinking that this should be a rather flattering style but I'm not sure if they're as easy to pull off as I originally thought. I wouldn't give up. I don't think this pair is perfect -- I think you can do better.

Janet, you're a good sport, and I haven't read everyone else's responses, but here's my cold read: yes, they fit. In #1, your legs look a mile long, and your torso looks humorously short. I've seen you in other pics and your torso is definitely NOT humorously short, which means these pants are a fail. In #2, it's not too bad, but still not particularly flattering. I think it would work better if the rise was a bit lower, actually, and if the overall fit was looser. You've got a fabulous figure, so just move on to the next pair and see if you like the look.

This is part of the reason wide-leg cropped pants don't get a lot of love from the general population. If a tall woman with a great bod has to work hard to get the proportions right, what do us short women do?

I have a similarly short waist and this is how I look in just a tank and wide pants (except that my legs are shorter).

I think it could work with an almost-cropped knit top that has a banded bottom that only slightly covers the high waist of the pants.

I have also worn a cropped, little wide sweater with wide jeans successfully. (See finds.)

Hmmmm 2 isn't bad.. it is hard to get used to the wide pants though . I agree that if anyone can it is you !

It's not you, it's the pants. You pull them off well in #2, but I'd love to see that style with just a bit less volume. I have a long rise and long torso and have found the rise to be too high on many culottes/wide-leg bottoms. In fact, my own recently taken incriminating photos of new jeans--one wide-leg, the other skinny--convinced me to go back to long skinnies.

Thank you for being a good sport. I do see what you mean in #1. If I superimposed my body over yours, my feet would be UNDER the pants, that's how short my legs are.

Like Angie says, I definitely think you could make #2 work, maybe with an untucked curved hem.

You are a good sport Put me in the no 2 could work with some tweaking camp. I think a less stiff fabric would help. And I totally get the desire to have some air circulation around the thighs. Especially in warm weather. This is part of the reason why I am going to experiment with this look myself.

I also think a less stiff fabric could work. Then again, I saw a picture taken of me yesterday in my drapier wide crops and I looked QUITE wide. I try not to think about it. I love the comfort, and I will keep wearing mine, but it's really not a flattering look, even on someone who doesn't have hips to begin with.

As for the high waist thing, I'm with you. I am short-waisted and have a couple of higher-waisted pants. I cannot expose the waistband or I look like I am drowning. I think I'm actually going to pass a pair on because they really are not comfortable. We have to work with what works on us.

As always, Janet, your bravery inspires me. I am even more inspired to try this silhouette on. Unlike you, I very much doubt I would ever post it.

Lol. Very River Runs Through It

Thank you for showing us this Janet.

I am similar to you... I imagine my bust would be hitting the belt loops.

Really dislike high waisted pants/ shorts anything...

However at the same time I am contemplating # 2. I have a pair of thin drapey Frank Lyman navy pants that are way too long - I am thinking of cutting them about 2 inches above the ankle to show off some shoes.

IF I wore a tunic style top I now think it would work... maybe to the crotch length. I am feeling it now...after seeing your # 2.

Wonderful inspiration....

I'm glad this was helpful or entertaining for many of you! Sometimes I feel compelled to suck up my vanity and share the non-flattering things I try. Maybe I'm too self-deprecating or just a glutton for punishment.

But in all seriousness, I am glad if this is helpful. I have gotten in the habit of taking frequent dressing room photos, and it really helps me figure out what's going on with fit and flattery when I'm on the fence, or even when I know it's a "no" to help me identify *why* it's a "no."

Janet, I'm with those who say you can wear this well, if you choose to. My own short waist and long rise does lead to some similar issues with higher waists but my adaptations are rather like Ummlila's and that helps. It's all in whether you want to bother. I have really enjoyed the denim culotte as a warm weather option. I don't wear on the stickiest days but it's great for evenings -- much cooler than typical jeans, which for me grab thighs -- as for you.
