About your wardrobe and personal style

in homage to angie's challenge: a mini global forum challenge

i thought it would be cool to use this thread to either:

a) post an homage to angie's three global challenge cities -- either based on her wonderfully vivid descriptions, or according to her actual outfits, or your own experiencing living/traveling to those cities, OR
b) post a photo epitomizing the style of a city you love, but have not necessarily lived in, OR
c) post a photo epitomizing the style of the city you grew up in, but don't necessarily live in now, OR
d) post a photo epitomizing the style of the city you live in now, OR
e) post a photo of yourself in traditional costume, for those who come from far-flung lands -- i'm always curious to see such things, and love seeing the differences!

mostly because i enjoy the global perspective this forum often has and would love to see what epitomizes "street style" in different cities... almost makes up for not being able to be there myself! :)

Cool idea, hanna! I look forward to seeing what gets posted!

P.S. Do you think you could go back and do a final round-up of the current challenge? I've got my assignment, but I think the other team got held up on the second-to-last person and now Bella has no one left to give her a challenge. Plus, two others got skipped and are still waiting... :)

i'm on it, kristen! :)

Great idea!!

I am totally chuckling at what I might wear for option C (homage to where you grew up), since I grew up in central Wisconsin. NOT style central, believe me.

Hmmm. Wife beater t-shirt, athletic shoes with black socks, accessorized by a Pabst Blue Ribbon and a foam cheesehead?

What a great idea!

I would love to choose e) but I don't have a tradicional costume.. :(

I'll choose d)

LOL @ laura -- i will also accept spoofs of city style ;)

i'll post later with photos -- definitely (e), and i can't decide about the others yet! i'm leaning towards (a), but the city i grew up in gives me a chance to try and dissect kuala lumpur style, which i never really thought about...hmm...

Hanna,
How is this challenge going to get posted. All on one thread? Did Shiny's celebrity challenge ever get started? You are so great with organization, and so clever with your challenges, this one sounds great!!

Love the idea - I would say that we leave it up to the person to choose whether they do a, b, c, d, or e. That way each of us can tailor it based on our degree of "globality"

oh absolute, sihaya -- that is why i posted so many options, just so everyone could take part if they chose!

GG, i am going easy with the structure on this one - it's probably easiest to post everything in this thread so it's easy to find. but i won't object to people starting new threads if they want - i'll post a link in here, though, so everyone can find everything. :)

i am not sure what happened with shiny's challenge! i wanted to try and plan an outfit around that! maybe i will, and post a photo later :) thank you for reminding me!

Fabulously fun idea!

Hanna, I can challenge anyone who fell by the wayside as planned. Just give me the signal.

angie, i just posted a thread on that a little while ago!

let me know if that sounds okay :)

This sounds pretty fun, I'm going to go with my hometown - now I have to try and pin down an approximation of SF style! I'm not very good at this but will give it my best shot!

How about having a thread for each option?

Oh dear, I'm with Laura. Me trying to dress New Jeresy?! I don't think I can get my hair big enough, and I do not own any bejeweled designer velour track suits.

1--is a little intimidating. Angie is a tough act to follow! But it sounds like fun and I would be up for it (though I have not been to any of the 3 cities ::sighs::)

2--sounds good

3--I must veto this idea for the sake for those of us who grew up in rural or suburban areas...

4--I would enjoy seeing everyone else participate but would not participate myself.

I am totally on for this! I'm going to do an mixture of b and d and do a homage photo to Polish style, where I lived for six months back in 2007 and 2008.

Hee, I will need to hit up Shell for her pink cardigans and pearls if I'm going to do a Connecticut throwback! :) :) :)

Oh, dear, Midwest street style for summer is calf length capri pants, athletic running shoes and probably a tee shirt with a sports team or college logo. Stepping it up would mean something with the Harley logo. I'll have to think....

Too Fun!! Actually, I was thinking while I was out shopping today that something to give you ideas when you are going places would be a great addition on the "guide" section of this site. Angie, you did such a great job on all of your challenges (everyone did for that matter) that I was thinking it would be cool to have a way to get yourself familiar with more diverse culture's & clothing styles. Even when you go on vacation someplace it's nice to get a feel for what different places are wearing. GREAT idea!! :)

I would do c, I think. Actually, it makes me realize that my style hasn't evolved that much since then. I did go through a phase of trying to fit in with Seattle look - fleece, gore-tex and all :)

This sounds like fun!
