It's discouraging, isn't it, when an aging body both requires even more exercise to maintain its weight on the same calories, yet resists your efforts by giving you joint pains when you do try to exercise?
One thing that can help is adding some resistance exercises to build more muscle--this can be as simple as body-weight exercises such as wall pushups 3 days a week, and gives you something you can still do when your foot or whatever won't let you do cardio for a while.
I tried using MyFitnessPal when it became so convenient to use my phone for tracking, but stopped for the same reason you did. I went back to using sparkpeople.com, which I had done previously on the regular computer, because it allows me to save my own recipes and frequently used meal items in a way that is fast and easy to refer back to, once the original input is done. That's now accessible on my phone as well.(All I need is some accountability with using it...)
