I'm Challenging Myself- and You!

Yesterday's challenge inspired me so much that I decided to challenge myself again. Like Sveta, I have the September In Style magazine and was inspired by the article on layering.

I'm not a fan of the long over long look, but I decided to give the other suggestions a whirl (I have some short sleeve over long looks in my other challenge), and also to see if I could come up with looks incorporating some of my newer items for fall- including some hand knit scarves.
If you'd like to participate in this challenge, just start a new thread with at least three examples of any of the layering styles mentioned in that layout.
Here are mine:
1- dress over jeans
this is the thrift store dress that broke my SYC with David Kahn jeans, Gwyneth booties, Merona belt and a DIY project from a thrifted sweater- cowl and arm warmers
2- cropped over long (although it's not that long)
thrifted sweater with H&M dress, black tights, vintage cameo and redwing boots
3- another cropped over not so long
merona engineer boots, NY & Co dress, Merona sweater and Merona moto
4- vest over jacket
suede booties, pants from Kohl's, AE vest and Eddie Bauer jacket
5- vest over jacket
oxfords from Penny's, Merona cargo's, H&M top, Eddie Bauer jacket and Ultra Pink lace vest
6- using new accessories
oxfords from Penny's, DK jeans, AE vest with stretch belt, leather Kenneth Cole hat and hand knit scarf
7- jacket over vest
Dr. Scholl's booties, Gap remade skinny jeans, white J. Jill top, drapey vest from Marshall's and Merona tux jacket
8- using new accessories (I feel a bit like I'm waiting for the Bolsheviks to attack)
merona engineer boots, Gap jeans, tunic from Old Navy, Merona scarf, hand knit hand warmers and wool cap
9- jacket over vest (I think this jacket may be too long)
suede booties, pants from Kohl's, vest and lace top from Forever 21, INC thrifted jacket
10- vest over jacket
platform sandals, pants from Kohl's, J. Jill shirt, blazer from Sears, Hinge denim vest, bracelet from F21 and necklace from Cinderella
Suggestions for improvement?

Nice! I really like how unexpected that lace vest looks over a denim jacket in #5.

Tee hee, I inadvertently have already been doing the dress over jeans look this past week here. I also really liked the layering over the denim jacket, unexpected, but really works well. In #4, I really like the proportions here and in #5, the lace vest looks like it's part of the jacket. I'm least a fan of #10, the blazer and jacket have very strong sharp lines, with 4 and 5, the lines were softer which made it less a contrast to my eye. Neat idea, I'm going to have to try some of these combinations!

Well, I think you look WAY better than the gals in the magazine! Especially your jacket over vest and vest over jacket looks in 5 and 7 - yours look much more effortless. #10 is not my favorite, but you did an excellent job on the challenge.

The only one I don't like is #10. Excellent job - what great ideas! I feel inspired, but I will have to wait for cooler weather before participating.

You score another KILLER rating for this challenge. You are extremely honed into your sense of style, and it delights me.

I especially love the Indie vibe of #1, the Euro vibe of #7, and the Jean-vibe of #3.

Another fabulous set! Lots of ideas to study and learn from--thank you! I especially like 3, as well as 4 & 5. You look way better than the girls in the magazine...I wasn't impressed with the article but I'll have to give layering a second look.

Your layering looks are so much more inspirational than the mag. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I can't even think about layering when it's 110. We got in our car after a movie yesterday and the thermostat read 126. Argh. But you look fab, Khris, and are fully ready for a super fashionable fall.

Angie- I hadn't put on my face or done my hair yet! I found cheap oxfords, but I can only wear them with socks (I was between sizes) so I am still looking.

Ooooh Khris you are on a roll, these are all so inspired! FAB takes on the InStyle layering, these look so much more accessible. My favorites are: 1 (amazing use of a cowl sweater, I'm filing this away to try!!), 3, 5, 8, 9.

Wow, Khris, thank you so much for taking the time (in the heat!!) to do this. Your looks are totally inspirational. I think that dress was worth breaking SYC for; it's super on you and looks really versatile. And I echo the others' praise of your layering techniques. My faves are 1, 3 (it really does look like Jean!), 4, 5, and 7.

I will definitely join in once I switch to my fall/winter clothes. I keep them in a separate closet that is hard to access so I have to wait to to the big closet switcheroo.

Khris, I love all of these and will be copying a lot of them! Much better than the magazine.

Wow! Amazing job! My personal faves are 3, 6, 7, and 8. You wear dark, muted, and warm colors equally well. Fab layering!
