IK, getting heels cut down?

My cobbler says they can't take my Newbury heels down more than 3/8", which isn't that helpful. How much did you take off and how was it done?

Una - my cobbler told me he could only take off 1/4' off the heel of a boot. He said if he took more, due to the angle of the sole, it would ruin the boot. So pretty much got the same story, I finally gave those boots away. Not worth it. Sorry to hear that they can't do more for your!!

Not IK, but in my past life I had this done to quite a few pairs of pumps and boots. It's true that in most cases, 1 - 1.5 cm is all that can be removed without disturbing the balance of the shoe.

I take it you mean the r+b Newbury booties? 3/8" off those would already be a lot, structurally. Perhaps you meant something else though?

What *can* be done in some cases is to also add a small platform to the front. I had this done on one pair of boots and the results were satisfactory. Meaning I was able to wear them even when I hadn't kept up with my abs work so my back wasn't at its best.

If they take too much off the heel, it makes the front of the boot lift up a little bit. I don't think it's worth it. I ended up giving away the boots I had altered. Just my 2 cents.

That's why I have the Isabel Marant Dickers and Acne Pistols. I couldn't do the height of the Newburys for normal wear.

I found even that small amount made a very big difference.

Oh my gosh - I did not know this was a possibility. I have a couple favorite pairs of heels that with just a smitch taken off the heel would be so much more wearable.
This post may have changed my shoe life.

I just had 1/4 " taken off the heels of two pairs off boots and it's helped with comfort levels.

It all depends on the boot/shoe as to how much can be taken off. I had 1/2" taken off some Paul Green booties and it turned them from booties I never wore to booties I wore all the time. It made a HUGE difference.

Wow that small a change makes that big of a difference? I wasn't going to do it but sounds like it may be enough.

It did for me, but i have really fussy feet, and it moved the heel from "above" to "below" my discomfort threshold (which is about 2").
