Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

If you could only hvae 1 color of tops - what would it be & why?

I'm curious. As I'm reading through everyone's capsule wardrobe challenge's & think about the most versatile top's. I know I find myself reaching for a cream colored top (regardless of outfit) most times so I was just curious. I think for me it's becuase I can wear it with brown, black, olive, camel bottoms, microcheck, pattern, (jackets or bottoms).

What do you think? What is your most versatile top color & why?

In the never ending search to have a perfectly working wardrobe.... :)

For me it would be black, which sounds like the predictable answer, but I do love wearing a basic black top with denim and accessorizing with scarves, etc. It's both easy to wear, works with my skin, and is very practical around a toddler!

Yes, same here - it'd have to be black. I have to stop myself buying another black top each season.

I hate to say it, but black as well. Black is an empty canvas and you can add so much to it with accessories. One black top can look completely different with different accessories.

For me, it would be grey. Black and white look way too harsh on my skin and as much as I love ink blue also, I think it is more difficult to mix and match with other colours. I think that in specific, it would be silver grey that I would choose.

I guess cream. It's much better close to my face than optic white or black, and is still neutral enough to go with anything.

I'm gonna say dark pink. It is my one of my favorite colors to wear and seems to give me the color I need with the neutral pants, jackets, etc.

Another vote for black here. I'm too much of a klutz to be trusted with light-colored tops on a daily basis.

Mine would be a muted rust red. I would probably wear that color everyday. It is very hard to find. Olive green is a close second.

I'm going back and forth between magenta and teal...both colors go with everything I own....black, brown, denim, gray. And both colors are flattering with my skin tone. I was noticing yesterday that most of my colored tops fall into these two color camps.

But if I was going for a basic, it would be white. White button front, white knit tops, tees for layering. My black tops are just not getting any mileage these days since I am just not liking black near my face as much as I have in the past.

I'd probably choose deep teal/peacock blue or turquoise, although lately I feel like I'm wanting to pair cobalt blue with everything.

Dark pink, teal, maroon and black. If they are available, I pick up all these colors. Maroon/Cabernet was easy to find a few years ago, but I hardly ever see it now.

Mine would be a nude color. The cardies that have seen the most action are nude from Target last spring (I duplicated). I also have a wool cardi and shell (thrifted) by J Crew in the same nude color. It goes with everything.

a very close second choice would be a light grey that Angie blogged about last spring. It's a neutral that looks great with my hair and skin tone and everything I own.

I would also say cream, it would have be a neutral that I could pair with denim and patterns. Cream also works with my skin tone.

Grey or turquoise x

Great question. While I'm actually on the hunt for the "perfect" black silk sleeveless top, I am not going to say black. Because so many of my top layers (cardis, jackets) are black already. So I want contrast with the blouse or shirt underneath.

Cream or white is definitely high on the list, but nothing beats a really flattering pop of color. It's just too hard to pick only one. I'd get too bored with just one color. Actually I'd get bored with tops only in solid colors too. Patterns are too much fun.

So now you know why I own so many blouses.... and have been adding fast & furiously lately, since it seems Fall is the best time to find the kind I like (silky, sleeveless or short sleeve, rich colors). Jeans+black jacket or cardi+interesting shoes+interesting blouse in interesting color... easy formula!

I'm another black-top gal. Lately I've been on an anti-black-top kick, but every time I put on a black top I think, "Wow I look good in black!" Not to be egotistical or anything, but it's one of the neutrals that really works for me.

Would have to be black...goes with everything else I own:)

I guess mine would be white or off-white just because I could wear black or any other colour over it.

Hmm, I m stuck between and cream and all shades of grey, since those two are my favorite and most flattering neutrals. Probably cream for warmer, and greys for colder weather .

In the past I would say brown but now any COLOR !My closet was full of brown, black, ivory and so on.Now any COLOR is good and I can't decide which one!

Really hard! I have lots of rraspberry/pink variations and teal/turqouise. But black is a staple and I think it is flattering to my skin tone. I wear tons of white under my work shirts (purple) but so bored of that already that it is ruining white for me :)

For me: brown or gray. They feel like total neutrals but are much less harsh against my skin than black or white.

Black is definitely my staple although I am working hard to get away from it. But if I could only choose one, this would be the safest bet for me!

Cream, because then it would go with a lot of other colors.

Interesting to note what the #1 is that everyone reaches for. Especially interesting to think about are the non-neutrals! Something to think about...

I'd probably go for red... It goes with everything, and I understand it's one of my best shades. Plus I'm more drawn to the idea of wearing colour than neutrals...although I know red functions as both in the Ylf world. Frankly that's another reason to make it my go-to hue. :)
