I wish there was an app to make models look like me

Well, is there?

If I could click a button to show me how a rectangular model in a harem pant jumpsuit would look in it with my shorter thicker legs, larger bum/hips/thighs, and smaller bust, I'd be in heaven.

(and probably also greatly shorten the list of things I fantasise about wearing!)

Actually, Land's End used to have avatars on their site and maybe still do. You plugged in your measurements etc. and the put the garment onto your virtual self to see how it would look. Sort of. It was a bit rough in practice.

I LOVE this idea !!! Land's End and Boden used to have something like it.

I know that there is one for downloading a headshot and trying different hairstyles and colors.

Lands End had that - what - more than 10 years ago. I wonder why it never caught on, it was fun to play around with.

I admit I slightly misread the post title, and I do wish there was an app to make me look like a model ;-).

That would be really an awesome app! I would especially appreciate if it can show me how long is the garment on my frame - this is my usual problem with clothing...

Or when you select your size according to the size charts the pic changes to one of a model who is your size?

Brilliant ideas. The old Lands End model using my information didn't look much like the real me. (I wonder if I have her saved somewhere. I don't look the same these days anyway.) I used to love to play with paper dolls, but not sure how I could translate that into a program.

Good point! I would LOVE an app like that.

Several years ago there was a denim site -maybe "girl shop"? -that used real (rather than computer-generated) women who had a variety of body-types. You could select a model whose body was close to your basic shape and then see what various designer denim styles looked like on her.

I also remember the old Land's End virtual model - it wasn't great, but it did help give a sense of what something might look like on my tall pear shape.

Bottom-line: Surely the underlying technology has improved in the past several years-somebody needs to do this! (I'm looking at you, Nordstrom.)

It isn't the app but what I always do when looking at clothing online that is pictured on a model is just scroll so her head disappears or mentally block out her head. Then it is easier for me to recognize whether this style would suit me. I also do this at home when trying to decide whether I like an outfit, ignore my face. Because we tend to get fascinated by our faces. When I'm deciding about color, then I pointedly do look at my face because it might be a great outfit I put together, just for somebody else.

You'd think with the recent developments of 3D rendering and holographic imaging, a virtual try-on program would not be far from the realm of reality. At least I'd like to see it!

This is not an app but it is a free downloadable program to build a body using slides.
My man has been messing with it for 3d model building and might be interesting for those of you who might want to play with it too.

Oh man, I totally concur. This is why I started reading plus size blogs, and other people who post their outfits' blogs, because I wanted to see what non-model thin people looked like it clothes. It really helped sort of "reset" my eye to think that people looked good, even when they are not model thin. I think it would be awesome if all sorts of sizes of women were models and we could all see what certain clothes might look like on ourselves.

It would be fun to play with Landsend model thing again. I remember using it years ago. But I doubt they have something to make the shoulders look like mine.

I would also be happy with a larger variety of models! I know they wouldn't get every single body type, but they could do Tall, average, petite, plus. Or rectangle, hourglass, apple, pear. And maybe cut costs from some of the useless background stuff...
