I want a tweed waistcoat! or, notes on Angie's bridging pieces.

So, I have loved the "english countryside integrity" of tweed waistcoats for a long time, and would love to find one.

I also could go for a blazer, and i like the grandpa integrity of elbow patches!

However... I'm "plus size" with a large bosom (yay breastfeeding!) and I can't seem to find the cute things that are available in "normal sizes". I'm right on the cusp of plus size, but with something as fitted as a blazer or waistcoat, I don't think I could fit my ladies into anything smaller than a 16 or 18. Sizing is so all over, but yeah. So, any advice for me?

oh, and I also want want want a capelet (have for several years, ever since watching Mansfield Park) but haven't found one yet. I like the style in the following link, but I was thinking woven material, not knitted or crocheted. I heart plaid.

I have seen a friend have a jacket tailored to fit. She had a jacket that she bought that was too small in a tweedy wool and she had a tailor put inserts into it out of leather. it really looked like it had been designed that way. She had the same leather trim the cuffs that were also too short. Just and idea.

I've been looking for a tweed vest for a while! I don't have any leads, but will watch this thread to see if you find one I'm looking for one that runs small or has petite sizes.

I have that JJill vest - it runs VERY large, so check it out (I wear size 10 or 12, and am wearing that vest in a petite small). It's very menswear-y and versatile.

I've always loved menswear vests, and they're really missing in the women's larger sizes. I used to be a 16/18, and had several too-small vests in my closet at all times.

Laurel, it sounds like you've loved this look forever. Is it possible to have the vest made? That way you could have the bust tailored to fit.....and a Tweed vest is pretty timeless, so I am sure you would get the cost per wear down in no time.

Not tweed, but plaid always reminds me of the English countryside too;-)

you can shop H&M online in the UK??? And 20? well that's... 16 here. I think some H&Ms have things that big... hmm.

Oh man Inge. I love the first blazer, it's just up my alley. But according to the measurements, it looks like H&M GB considers me a 22... so, no blazer for me. sad...

Is there any chance at all that you could go to a brick-and-mortar H&M to try it on anyway, you never know...

Yes, there are several H&Ms in the Seattle area (the first one opened on my 29th birthday! You can guess where I was...) So I think I'll check it out. Do you think they have the same clothes here as in GB?

I think there's a good chance of that, Laurel. In the past I've often seen US forum members post H&M items that were at that time also online in the UK shop and in the H&M shops in Antwerp. So my guess is they keep stock pretty similar worldwide, but things move fast, so I'd go check it out asap;-)
