I somehow feel guilty! - YouLookFab Forum

Because I'm considering a boho dress! It's silly to feel guilty! But 95% of boho Does Not Work on me. Fit, flattery, colors - it's usually way off. So to be responsible I should leave it alone and focus on what does work, right? And yet that 5% is wonderful. Like the Glamorous red maxi dress that Duchess Kate wore.

This one is has a flowing style with on trend bell sleeves. Contrasting embroidery, and color options. I love how the silhouette is flowing, but there's also a lot of interesting cutting and seaming detail for a nice fit. It's also a knit (and machine washable).

My long-sleeve dress wardrobe is VERY heavily tilted toward dark blues and burgundy/maroon. Bad, because I love color and get bored so easily! I'm bound to buy a bunch in January out of desperation if I don't get more variety. I'm the lowest in the orange-yellow-green range, so this "bottle green" really caught my eye. But oddly, the black one is really striking to me as well. I have to be very careful with black - it can be emotionally depressing - so it would be a risk for me. The garnet is lovely, and the butterfly print is awesome for other reasons, but the colors provide no variety. (Though I can really use more prints.)

There's a free shipping promo today, and I happened to see the added colors. I would love to be a bit more on trend, and bell sleeves at this length are really something I can enjoy.

I love the contrast of the red embroidery on the black dress. But, it sounds like the green dress would fit your requirements of adding more color and variety into your winter wardrobe. I really love the butterfly print one too. That could be fun and cheery in mid-winter.

I agree that the black with red is really striking. That would be my first choice, although I understand wanting to add more green -- that's a beautiful shade and would work well for the holidays if that's a priority for you. I'd be hesitant about the butterflies -- they seem to be this year's version of put-a-bird-on-it, and I have a feeling we'll reach a saturation point and they'll start feeling old in not too long.

I like the look of that style, too. I just need autumn colours! So I'd vote get one. Do you have any of that bottle green already? It's slightly cool, so I bet it looks better on you than me (I have one dress in that).

I'm not a dress person, I'm generally not a print person, But I am a butterfly person....so I'd get that one! plus that one looks less seasonal so it feels like it could work well into the spring

I really love that green, and green is speaking to me lately. With your coloring, I think it would be just gorgeous and a standout over the holidays.

LOL, La Ped, re butterflies being this year's put-a-bird-on-it. I think that may be true; yesterday I was this close to buying a butterfly tunic.

I vote the black one. It's fabulous. And it's not just black; it's black and red, which has a very different vibe. It's very pretty and and doesn't scream out "boho" in an obvious way -- it's more like a sort of cross between gothic romance and Glastonbury festival wear.

At a quick glance, the green one looks like a Robin Hood costume. The butterflies are nice, as is the garnet one, but neither is as fabulous as the black and red. Go with your gut.

Overall, I'm leaning against the butterflies. It's a beautiful print, but I don't love it. I did just get this black-ground print from Modcloth, and I do love it. I don't quite love the butterfly dress like that. And it has tan/beige, which is not a neutral I use at all. Now, if it was a blue ground with lots of green in it and touches of gray, I doubt I'd have started this discussion! (Though they would be rather unnatural-looking butterflies...)

LOL, La Pedestrienne! You may have a point with the butterfly thing. I have seen quite a few butterfly items this season.

Green is definitely the logical choice. It fills out the wardrobe in a really good way. That color should be splendid for me, as long as it's not darker than photographed. Alassë, I have a knit dress from several years ago that was labeled bottle green, but it's rather too dark. See find below. This one looks a bit lighter and is not exactly the same material.

It's terrific for the Christmas season - another good call, La Pedestrienne. I don't have holiday parties to go to, but there's a lot of generally festive wear at work and other regular activities. Not to mention Christmas day itself - it was so warm last year my mother was the best-dressed with her red Christmas tree tee! And I actually like the Robin Hood feel. Especially with tall boots. Muahaha.

But Aziraphale really nailed why I'm drawn to the black and red. It really is fabulous, and the embroidery shines instead of just adds on. I particularly like it on the upper arms; it's atypical placement and is just really a neat touch.

My gut is just confused! :p

Don't get the green one!

That's the green colour I have (several years ago).

Nothing wrong with green in general, but on this particular dress, it makes it look like a costume.

Everyone has good points about the dress. For some reason I am drawn to the black. I rarely wear black but I do think black in this case is so beautiful with the embroidery.
But you know what you feel best in.

I see the boho you're pointing out, but I also feel like this dress has a very Victorian thing going on. I could totally see this under a corset at a Renaissance faire.
