About your wardrobe and personal style

I have destroyed my new cream skinnies :(

I am having bad luck with my cream items recently.

I wore my new cream skinnies today for the first time, and they got a bit dirty. I was doing some laundry earlier tonight, ans decided to pretreat the dirty spots with OxyClean. I was also treating some stains on a white shirt with Tilex. I accidentally treated my pants with Tilex instead of Oxyclean, and I noticed it too late. I was hoping it wouldn't matter, but it did, quite a lot. Once they were dry you can see a bunch of huge white spots, similar to bleach stains. I want to cry like a child right now :(

Oh that is terrible! I'm so sorry to hear that! What are you going to do now? Maybe you should try soaking them in Tilex and making them white skinnies. Worth a shot if they are ruined already. I've never heard of treating white clothes with Tilex. Isn't is harsh on the fabric?

Thank you Shannon. Tilex works on (some) sweat stains on white tops, that's what I have been uing it for. i never planned to get it on the pants, just grabbed the wrong spray bottle :(

Yes, I was thinking exactly what you suggested, trying to bleach them all and turn them white. Will probably try that out of sheer desparation.

Oh Tanya!!! I don't know anything about cleaning products, but I like the suggestion of trying to dye them all white instead. Otherwise if that doesn't work, maybe overdye them in another completely different colour.....like RED? :)

Bummer Tanya. What is the fabric content?
I hope putting the whole garment in the Tilex will work for you.
I wouldn't put bleach on them if they have spandex though. (Just in case you are thinking of bleaching them)

ACHING.

I'm so sorry, sweet pea. Can they become clamdiggers?

Than you all for the sympathy.

Angie, sadly they can not. I have stains near the front pockets, on the knee and close to the hem - no getting around that. I am off to spray the whole pants and see what happens.

Ah! I'm waiting to hear the results.

Oh no! I hope spraying the whole pair works. Or if not, would over-dying the fabric be something to try?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Tilex works for you.

GROAN. Oh Tanya, I'm so sorry! I hope your bleach idea works. There's also a Rit Dye solution that is made to lighten/bleach items that I used on poor dye jobs as an art student - they are sold at most grocery/Wal-Mart/Target type stores. I hope you can salvage your skinnies!

Oh Nooooo...:(. Can you replace if need be?

Well, it did not work. There are stains all over now randomly distributed, they look like those trendy tie-die skinnies :) I don't know what am i going to do with them, but I will certainly not wear them like that.

The good news : I have reordered them, the last pair left. So I will still have my pants, I just wasted some money and a lot of nerves.

I'm glad you were able to reorder the jeans, don't dwell on this, just put it down to experience.

Oh how awful
I wonder if it would work dyeing them say black, hum though i suppose the colour uptake might be different on the tilex spots I note you sprayed them would it be worth soaking them might give a more even finish x

Oh.. That's awful.. and for some reason these accidents only happen with pieces we love!

Tanya, I'm so sorry :-( Do give Rit a shot. I use it to remove stains from my whites with colored piping embroidery etc. and it works really well.

Posted 2 months ago

Awful! Maybe you could treat them with the Tilex a couple more times until the white is more uniform? or tie dye them?

Oh, sorry to hear about your pants but glad you were able to order another pair. Now you have a pair to experiment with, colorwise! :)

I am sorry to hear about your new jeans Tanya. I ruined a perfectly good pair of khaki pants with bleach once. I took them to the dry cleaner, where they were able to dye them for me. They also told me that the only color that would work was pitch black. They turned out fine.

Tanya could you do with another pair of black skinnies? :) I have a pair of jeans that I am thinking of overdying because the wash is waaaaay too light. Could be a fun process!!
