I found the zipper leggings!

I have been so envying the calf-length zipper leggings that Angie (and, I think, Kari?) is sporting, but had only been able to find them in a plus size.

The other day, Angie offered the following piece of advice:

>Macys petites department has restocked the zippered leggings too. Go have a squizz.

So I stopped by Macy's the other day and wandered around the INC section. I told myself I was having a squizz, and suddenly realized I didn't know exactly what a squizz was and whether I was squizzing correctly (or even at all) when I spied the leggings in my size! Woo hoo.

Since one of the few 80s-ish trends that I love without regret or bad memories is the zipper-y look, I am so happy to have these. Thanks for the tip, Angie.

That's good to know, thanks. I went to Macys yesterday and only saw cropped leggings, or longer leggings with lace trim. Bleh. But I looked in the hosiery department.

Congratulations April on your squizzing!!! Seems you have been successful.
Now can we see pictures of the zippered leggings?

Thanks for the info! I love how they hide the leggings on a random rack in the INC. department. You really have to know what you're looking for ...

We have a Bloomie's and a Macy's in our mall and the Bloomie's has a much bigger INC. section. Think I'll check there since I'm aiming to expand my leggings collection.

*chuckle* about the squizzing!!

Hee, excellent, April! I found mine hiding on a rack behind some random tops.

Sounds like you squizzed perfectly, April. I can't wait to see you sport your new zippered leggings! I’m wearing mine now. Again.

I was at INC with a client a few hours ago and they have the BEST leggings selection in town. (No Bloomies for us here unfortunately). I’m all over the ruched pair that came in a denim grey. Very delish. Must get!

So, what exactly is a "squizz"?

My best guess is that it's what we might call a "look-see." Is that about right, or does it mean more of a try or an attempt? (It's a wonder children ever learn language at all; it's so difficult to get exact meaning through inference alone!)

Bumping because I'm now very curious about this word. My DS has begun using it because he likes the way it sounds, but I have no idea what *he* thinks it means... perhaps something mildly inappropriate, as is the way of 12-year-olds. :)

I love discovering new words too. And squiz(z) has such a fun ring to it. I got curious and did some research. Apparently it's an Australian term (where did you pick it up Angie?)

In the New Oxford Dictionary of English I found:
Austral./NZ informal: a look or glance/look or glance at
Origin: early 20th cent.: probably a blend of quiz and squint

Collins English Dictionary adds:
Austral. and N.Z. slang. a look or glance, esp. an inquisitive one.

I'm sure you squiz with the best of them April;-) And those zippered leggings are going to look fantastic on you!!

Bobs your Uncle. Perfect inferences! I don’t know WHERE we picked it up. It’s just part of our vocab.

Now that's a term I'm going to work into everyday usage around here. I love learning new words!

Congrats on finding the leggings. I looked around last weekend, and due to the big sales going on, had bad luck--most everything I wanted was already long gone. *sigh*
