I definitely NEED this H&M top -- Act II (with pics)

So yesterday I picked up the dress just in case the top never happens. (Maya graciously offered to check NY, and I alerted my daughter who's in Germany this weekend and headed to the UK next.)

Today I think it's fun and I like it. I have no problems with 'surrendering the waist'. However, I can also see myself suddenly saying 'what was I thinking?!'

I can't find my JCrew pearls to see what effect they have, but I did try my cropped sweater over it.

So, is it acceptable, or should I skip the dress completely?

I *think* I like it.... but I don't think I like it with the cardigan. I wonder how it would be with a black cardigan or jacket......

Hah - sounds like you've been driving ALL over the Twin Cities ; )

I like it, on its own (without the cardi) - I think it could be a fun summer frock! Funny, I tried on some version of that - more of a tee, I think - that did NOT work. I never saw the tank, which I agree is adorable.

I tried it with my sleeveless jacket (seen below with another H&M striped dress), but they were wrong for each other. I tried a cropped black leather jacket, but wrong. I have a black hooded longer wrap I could try, then I could belt it. (Belting the dress itself looked wrong on me).

QM - was there a voting option? I tried to add it in an edit, but maybe it needs to be done right from the start?

I *much* prefer the black & cream striped dress above, Sara. That's an adorable outfit!

I vote against the multi-coloured bold horizontally striped dress. My eye sees too much dress for your height, and the short over layer does not work. It could have looked better sleeveless, where you exposed more skin, or as a blouse - less fabric. I hope that makes sense. Sorry to be a spanner

I kind of like it, but it isn't the easiest thing to combine. Maybe play it down with longer black tights, black shoes, black jacket and a chunky black necklace.

I don't like how the stripes on the sleeves don't match up. Otherwise, I would love it. I hope you find the top. I LOVE the colors.

I would love it as a top, but the dress makes me think of a little girl's Hannah Andersson play dress. And mommy put tights on you so you could turn cartwheels without showing your underpants.

But I lurve the navy/cream (or black and cream?) outfit. Perfect!

Alicat - how did you know that it brought me right back to some 1992 items I had from the Gap and Hanna Andersson! (That made me really worry. . . )

Alecia - good eyes! I got the best of the bunch, but they were still somewhat uneven.

Angie - Thanks for being a spanner -- because I worried that in a few weeks I'd be second guessing my purchase. It's good to try things outside our comfort zone, but I already did that with the black and cream stripe dress
