I definitely NEED this H&M top

I am absolutely enamored with the H&M top in this post (of course she is so adorable and wears it SO perfectly -- half kate spade, half Audrey Hepburn):

I even ran to the Mall of America H&M today, but they only have the short sleeve dress version (and that's a few too many of those adorable stripes IYKWIM).

Has anyone seen this *top*?

I have another H&M to try, then I may need to start begging for someone who would pick one up for me

Adorable. There are about 10,000 H&Ms here so while I can't get to all of them, I'll check the ones that are near work. What size would you need?

Oh, Maya - if you found one, that would be incredible!! I think I'd wear a Small. That was a better fit in the dress than the Medium (dresses came S,M,L). If they are numbered sizes, I think I'd be a 6 or 8 at H&M.

I had figured that the H&M/Mall of America should have the most selection. . .but the workers had never even seen it in a *top*.

Sara, I love the top, but after you mentioned the dress I looked it up and really love it! Does it just kind of fall tent-like, or does it have any tapering at the waist?

Steph - no tapering, barely A-line shape, almost straight, and quite short. But the fabric is a substantial knit (cotton/spandex, I think, but I read a lot of labels tonite!) and it has an exposed zipper down the back.

Where are you finding pics of the dress?

Great top, I loved how she had styled it. Couldn't the dress also work well with a jacket on top if you want to minimize the impact of all those stripes a bit ? I hope you find it !

Great idea, anna! However, I already own a *very* bold black and cream striped H&M cotton sweater dress (do I sense a theme here?) that I break up with a black sleeveless blazer. It works beautifully, *I* think

Anyway, I think I can get more use out of the top.

I saw this top at H&M yesterday and was really disappointed. Let's just say it's VERY photogenic. The blogger looks amazing in the photos!

Angie - I guess I haven't had enough coffee yet. Can you clarify 'very photogenic' - does that mean it photographs better than it looks IRL. If so, what aspect?

I like the dress fabric well enough (although I did have to sort through 6 dresses to find one whose stripes matched at the seams and whose sleeves were pretty much equal in striping, etc. . .

Sara, I didn't touch the dress so I can't vouch for it's workmanship.

The top looks better in the photos by about a million percent. First, it's a knit, and in the photo it looks like a drapey woven blouse. The knit top has zero drape and it was hemmed with beige top stitiching straight onto a black stripe - which I think cheapens the look of the garment. The blogger bought a version where the beige top stitching is stitched onto the beige stripe, which looks better (a lucky production fluke). Anyway, FWIW - that was my impression.

On that note, I've found that many, many clothes look better in photos than they do irl. One has to be quite careful. Go Team Store.

I was at H&M today and saw the dress. It looks like it runs pretty large, although I didn't try it on. (Does anybody else find that H&M's sizing is just all over the place, by the way?) The workmanship looked like what you'd expect from H&M -- cheap enough that I decided it wouldn't pass muster for me as a work dress and that's why I didn't try it on. It has a long exposed zipper in back and the stitching just didn't look awesome, you know?

eh eh I agree with Angie.. that's the problem os many pieces in HM.. look lovely on photos and when we see it live.. the fabric has not great quality!

lynne - you are SO sweet to offer, but given the quirkiness of H&M quality, I better put the 'burden' on my daughter (as any mother should?!) to sort through the stripes, stitching, zipper, etc. and see if one passes muster. . .plus she can try it on for me -- I buy one size larger than her

. . .and if it never materializes, then I'll just visit it at the blog when I need a dose of bright!
