Hunter Wellies - What Colour?

I have long toyed with the idea of adding a pair of Hunter wellies to my wardrobe. The recent torrential rain in Sydney has certainly made me think about wellies again.

I know that Hunter wellies get the thumbs up from Angie and others here in the YLF forum.

I'm thinking of getting the Orinigal Tall in High Gloss over the matte. Just not sure what colour.

I'm liking Graphite Grey, Violet and Royal Purple. The purples are fun and playful athough I am not sure how versatile.

My primary purpose would be wear to the wellies to work and then change into my shoes for day. Although I can see them as being worn over skinny jeans in a weekend casual outfit in the rain.

What colour gets your vote?

I have the violet and have found it easy to incorporate it into my wardrobe. They make me smile.

I like them all of course, but Graphite would be most neutral and the purple great fun. Personally I have now added the Navy to MY wishlist.

mamapicklejuice - i can so understand why your violet Hunter wellies make you smile. Wearing purple always makes me happy.

Jjsloane - I had the same thinking as you. Hope the Navy ones come off your wishlist and into your wardrobe very soon.

modgirl - I must confess I don't actually own a raincoat (Actually, I don't think I have owned one since high school. It was school issue navy). I typically just brave the wet in my coat and and an umbrella. My current outercoats are a black wool coat, carmel wool coat and black Ben Sherman trench.

If your current coats are black and caramel, you shouldn't have any problems with either the violet or the purple, or one of the other bright colors. Your coats are so neutral that any color would work with them, so I don't think you need to be worried about versatility. I would go with whichever color makes you happiest. If you're torn between the two purples, I would go with the violet if you tend to prefer warmer colors and the purple if you tend to prefer cooler colors. Personally, I love all the bright colors--the aqua and the pink are really great as well!

When I went to buy Hunter boots a few years ago, I was befuddled by the huge colour choice too. I ended up going for navy blue. It's a very dark grayish-blue, and looks even more so with a bit of white "bloom", which rubber boots tend to get with use. (I'm not keen on very shiny, shiny wellies anyway. They look better if they have a live-in look, IMO). I'm very happy with my choice. It has the same vibe as black, but is a little more interesting.

So with that in mind, I'd say go for the graphite ones. I'm a fan of neutrals when it comes to wellies. However, colour is a highly personal choice -- if the purple makes your heart happy, by all means get those! They are all cute.

Angie - Thanks for your vote. I'm not sure if I expected black to get your vote :-$ High Gloss Black is certainly more interesting than the black in the Original Range.

Steph - I appreciate your colour advice Something to think about. Actually in terms of the purples, not sure about either of the high gloss purples anymore, now that I have seen the Original Rain Boot in Purple (definitely not Iris!!)- http://www.saksfifthavenue.com.....4446171241

elizabeth - I agree the Hunter colour choice is both great and confusing. Sometimes I find I work better with less colour options. Although the variety is what makes them fun. Purple does make my heart happy and I do find i'm constantly drawn to purple coloured clothes and accessories. Possibly even a little too purple obsessed.

Colour aside, I might need to rethink where I'm buying them from. I've just learnt that here in Australia they retail for over $200. Wow, I was not expecting them to be that much.

Manda, I have glossy black wellies and have found them to work well for the kind of purpose you're describing. Colorful ones are fun, but for me, I worry about the combination of rubber rain boots and bright color making me look overly childish (I'm short). Also, my work attire and trenchcoats are fairly dressy, and the colorful boots are a bit more gear-like.

Is your work clothing more casual, or more dressy?

My work clothing swings between dressy and business casual depending on the type of day it is - meetings, at my desk, at corporate events etc.

I get what you mean about colour making you look childish. I'm not on the short side. However, family and friends have admonished my desire for rain boots as childish altogether.

I've been thinking about it and aside from my obsession with the colour purple, I think I was leaning towards colour as I feel my wardrobe contains too much black.

I plan to find some in my size to try on. I have big feet (an AUS 10). Then find them in my size. They are on my wish list and not necessarily a purchase priority.

What colour is your hair and skin? The glossy violet is lovely, and you cannot go wrong with Angie's vote for high gloss black.

I haven't checked on-line prices; in store in the UK they are approx 160AUD at the moment. I vote yay, which ever colour you choose :). Your family will soon be asking to borrow them :).

I have these in hunter green which I love! They are sleeker than the original wellies ..... I really, really, like them. I have really small calves so they look better on me than the originals do. They are lined and the original wellies are not. Just some other options if you are in the market.

Hi Manda, those boots are fantastic. I vote for the black high gloss. Given how you describe your wardrobe I don't think you could go wrong with these. I think even tho they are Wellies the gloss black gives a very streamlined and elegant look that would work with your work outfits. They would also translate well to casual on the weekends. I have a pair (different brand) in black and I feel good wearing them. They get worn to certain winter kids activities, school excursions, etc and I can wear them in very unstylish situations and still feel stylish Good luck choosing.
