How do you match your wallet to your purse?

I need to buy a new wallet. My old one was a lovely citron color, but I don't think I would buy such a light color again. I saw a wallet in the stores that I really like, but it is dark brown. The bags I usually carry are black, burgundy/reddish brown, cognac, or mushroom colored. Possibly because I am unreasonably fussy, I think that dark brown would look weird with these colors. Or am I weird to care?

How do you match your wallet to your purse? Or what is your criteria for selecting a wallet?

Mine don't match. My wallet is a black one by Golunski which I absolutely love, I'm desperate to replicate it because it is so perfect x

I like a wallet that is large enough and interesting looking enough so that if I just want to carry it alone, it still looks like part of my outfit - rather than that I'm just carrying my wallet! I also like a wallet that is brightly colored so that I can easily spot it inside my handbags that have a dark lining. Other than that, I'm not too picky. I'm currently using a Kate Spade green wallet which I love because it is soft, roomy and since ordinarilly I can't wear green - this is a fun way to incorporate green into my wardrobe!
I'm not a fan of a dark brown color for a wallet - for the reasons above - and also, it is just too conservative for me - so I'm not real good at giving you advice on that color of wallet. However, if you want it to go with your bags, and you don't want something colorful - how about a multicolored one - that has some of the colors in it that are in your bags?

Well, I seem to have odd ideas about matching because my current wallet is orange, which I think goes fine with all of my bags. It's just that the magnetic closure seems to be un-encoding my bank card

So orange goes, but brown doesn't. I might need my head examined...

Thanks for the responses. I am very interested how others handle this. I like how you use green, Marley, to bring a different color into your wardrobe.

I don't bother wo match. My current wallet is a soft leather and hand made by a local artist. It's black leather with white leather flowers. This one is pretty easy to find in my bag but I'd usually get a color that's easy to locate against a black purse lining.

I don't match mine at all. I think of them as two separate accessories, and sometimes I even carry my wallet but not a purse, depending on the day.

Mine don't match. I have a big black leather wallet (with my check in it too) that I use with all of my purses, and I don't have any black purses. I figure as long as my wallet is simple/classic it doesn't need to perfectly match my purses.

I went nuts a few months ago and bought a matching wallet, purse and checkbook cover on eBay. Strangely enough, the bright purple wallet seems to coordinate well with my other purses as well.

I don't match, I never even thought about it. The only thing that concerns me is that it is a fun bright color so that I can find it in my bag.

I dont try to deliberately 'match' but I do like to have them 'go' with the colors of my purses....

Hmm.

Well, mine definitely don't match at all. My wallet is a corally-pink with butterflies on...so it actually matches nothing.

It spends most of its time in my bag so it's not a problem for me.

Like most everyone else, mine don't. I try to get a fun, colorful wallet. It matches nothing and goes with everything! My current is green.

Like Maya, I never considered this to be an issue. I'm more concerned with having a wallet that has the correct configuration for my life (change purse part has to have a zipper, not a snap closure; slots for at least 10 cards, etc)

My current wallet is green- that's my favorite color so I get a kick out of it every time I see it. My bags are fairly neutral, so I don't worry about how it goes with it. Maybe a print that would work with all of your bag colors would be fun?

I've just always chosen a red wallet (since I love red), and my mom saw it the other day and announced "you're the third generation of women in our family with red wallets!". I guess it's genetic? I've never thought about purse-matching....

Mine don't match, but I do get bugged if they seem to clash. So I tend toward some sort of neutral, and not too dark in color. Right now I keep groping in my large bag for my small black wallet :-\

Hmm... mine don't match. I switch bags on a somewhat regular basis but in order to do that quickly, I need a wallet that matches just about everything! I have one that is a metallic pewter color that is really functional and cute so I just swap it into whatever bag I am carrying that day. I think a fun neutral like a metallic keeps me from getting bored AND prevents the worry that I would clash.

I think my brain exploded just reading the thread title!

Fabulosity requires thinking about so many things! I can't cope with any more!

(Of course, I also can't cope with the idea of having more than one purse, thereby conclusively proving again that I am fab-deficient.)

Katja - LOL! I think as long as you make sure your one purse is fab, then this is no obstacle to fabulosity. Actually you must have an evening bag, right? Or a companion with pockets.

Another non-matcher over here who never gave it a moment's thought before. My bright red wallet goes into any of my bags without hesitation. I personally don't think it needs to be an issue. So Katja, deep breath!

I don't my wallet is a dark purple leather and it makes me feel cool every time I pull it out. I don't see myself changing it for a while. Plus it helps that most of my bags are a neutral color (red is a neutral ).

I don't match my wallet to my bags at all. I've carried the same wallet for about 6 years (eek). It was a gift from my grandma, otherwise I'd never have purchased it (it's eel skin, sigh). It's a fairly deep red that only deepens in color with use and age.
I like that I can carry it alone if I want.
I have the same one in grey as well (my poor grandma is such a sucker for QVC and buys lots of the same item only to give them away to her granddaughters).

This is actually a really fun read. What the conversation is making clear to me is that I also don't think the wallet needs to match within limits. I can easily imagine a bright color or simple pattern with all kinds of purses, but my case where I am imagining a dark brown with other neutrals is throwing me and I don't really get why.

People clearly notice my wallet when I take it out to pay for something because people often comment on it. I guess this is what makes me self-concious about the issue.

Sarah- I have an eelskin wallet too- does it bother you more than cow leather?

My wallet is a neutral colour (bone) so it goes with everything. It's simple and gorgeous with just the right number of card spaces.

I have way to many handbags to match each wallet. I have a black leather crock at present....it seems to go with most of my bags

Back in the day when I carried one bag,,It had the matching wallet, sun glass holder, key fob and cosmetic case.

I am with Taylor, I have too many bags to try to match. Instead I got a lovely brightly colored zip up wallet that I guess goes with most of them; that wasn't a requirement when I got it.

What was a requirement was getting one in a color that I could spot easily in a crowded bag. Mission accomplished!
