Sorry - I'm just full of random information today .

We were talking about Andrea Linnett the other day on some thread - I can't remember which.....but I've preordered this to my iPad . After all, who doens't want to be cool ?

Once I saw who the author was, I ordered it. I'm a sucker for style books anyway, and the description of this book looks like it will be a interesting read.

Lucky was great for a while and then went downhill IMHO. But I still have the Lucky books and they are pretty classic as Jenn said.

I agree it totally went downhill in the last 3 or so years it was being published - but in the early years it was so different and interesting !

I could get the Kindle verion, but I wonder if it's more fun and easier for referencing to flip pages in the paperback?
Thoughts? I didn't find Kindle magazines that fun. For novels, it's great.

Unfrumped, for this you definitely need the book. I love my Kindle style reader for certain things, especially technical writing, because my professional books and journals are large and heavy to lug around, but truly, for references, a book is best.

If you are cool, you don't need to read this book.
If you are not cool, this book is not going to make you any cooler.

It's probably very entertaining though.

I was thinking the same thing as Unfrumped. I have some books on my laptop or ebook reader but I do miss having a hard copy book. However, I move around so much I can't travel with books. I will probably download it.

I still love the two Lucky books (but then I am on no way cool so for me they don't date!). So this is definitely going to my to-buy list.

I usually choose the e-version of books like this because :
1. I like them and buy a lot of them and don't have room to permanently house everything I buy
2. unless it's a book I know I will keep forever (Bobbi Brown makeup books, style history books) I'd rather spend less money on them - let's face it: some of them can be pretty lame throw-aways . Also - depending up on the content, some fashion tip books can date....again making the hard-copy investment less appealing .

Of course I want to be cool! Looks like a good read.

My son always says that actual cool people never say they are cool or talk about being cool. If you call yourself cool, you are not. LOL I avoid all cool talk when he's around. But, I think he may have a point.

Well, my copy of the book arrived. At first glance, it doesn't look like there's anything in there that I'd wear, so I'm definitely not cool. That said, I'm hoping to glean some ideas that I can somehow or other use for my wardrobe.

lisap - wondering if you read the book and what you think of it? Since I dress very casually - loads of denim and shorts, I wonder if the book would be of use to me. I must say recently I have been leaning more classic than trendy or cool - summer for me is harder to look pulled together so I start going for more nautical color combos (navy/white) and try to find tops that are just slightly more dressy than tees - like silk tanks.

I ordered it in hard copy by mistake (I had intended iPad) and it came yesterday. I pretty much read through the whole thing last night. I enjoyed it, but it's not full of fashion epiphanies that no one's heard before.

My daughter took a look at the book and she was taken by Linett's fondness for seasonless dressing and layering.

Linett has her set of basic cool pieces everyone should have -- and of course as with all such lists I like some (striped jerseys, jeans) and not others (slip dress, tan trench). She offers some good ideas on mix and match.

The book features young to middle aged 'real people' models and interviews with them on their style. They are mostly thin, tall New York types and not super diverse. The only New Englander I saw was Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, who is indeed very cool.

I can't relate to this book. I don't like distressed and/or faded jeans, I don't wear black leather, etc. I have a different body type, too.

It's a book. Intended to be read by millions of different people. Read and absorb what you will. Or not. Lots of people love distressed jeans and leather - in fact, that's what I had on tonight.

It's a perfectly fine book for people who can identify with it. I just thought there'd be something in it for me, and it looks like there's not. I'm not criticizing people and their taste in clothing. We all like what we like and dislike what we dislike. I think I'll stick to my rather classic style, even if it's not cool. Interesting book, though! Again, I hope to glean some ideas from it.
