Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

H&M little black dress - keep or not?

I got this little H&M black knit dress last week when I got the purple sweater one that is going back. For the whole week I keep oscillating between thinking that it is really cool and that it is nothing special, so I just can not decide whether to keep it or not. Obviously, I need your help on this. I only want to keep stuff that are 9/10. I am actually going to the mall tomorrow to return a bunch of other things and it would be great to know if I should take this back too. Many thanks!

I think it is cute but everything looks great on you. Honestly, I think you can do better.

I agree with Jean. It looks really cute on you and fits well, but it's not like WOW. Do you have something similar already (i.e., short-sleeve LBD)?

Is that a belt or grommets around the waist? This might be one of those things where you have to see it in person to read the subtle details. Black is so hard to read in photos. I am seeing potential here. The length seems perfect for the boots, which are gorgeous.

I agree with Jean, too. It's very cute and looks great on you, but there are better options out there.

I think it's very very cute and great on your figure. I have the same dress in bright pink (picture here for details of the dress: http://adressandabike.files.wo.....amp;h=537).

Shiny, it has a belt and it also has some details on the neckline as well. The fabric is actually better quality than one would expect from H&M.

Tanya, it was also available in pink or grey. Could you return it for the grey perhaps?

I was of the "nice, but not amazing" opinion until I saw the dress details in Dawn's photo. I think it's an excellent piece, both classic and trendy at the same time, with lots of potential. It fits you well, Tanya, and looks like an excellent length for the boots, as Shiny said. Very flattering as well as interesting in person, I would think.

Unless you have something pretty similar, I'd keep it. And if you have something similar, I'd consider getting it in another colour!

Soooooooo, I think this frock is a great addition to your wardrobe, Tanya. It’s different to anything that you have and that’s why it gets my thumbs up. This frock is evolving your style to the next level. Nice! Swap out the belt and have fun with the new look.

Since I'm just getting active in the forums, I don't know much about your personal style or what you currently have in your wardrobe, but I think the dress is cute! Of course I've already caught on that you look good in everything Tanya ;) By itself, the dress doesn't have a whole lot of WOW factor, but I think it's really adorable and is a good blank canvas. I would say make the decision based on whether or not it's a good addition to your wardrobe, because it definitely looks great!

Thank you all very much for your input! I have decided to keep it, since I do not have anything even remotely similar - no classic LBD sheaths for me so far. I find the fitted sheath dresses so difficult to fit with my long waist - the waistline on such dresses usually hits me about 2" higher than it should :(
