Highly Elusive Beauty Items

Ladies, I just discovered the HEBI, a second cousin to Angie's HEWI. I was replying to NDMom's post about Holy Grail beauty items. I listed mine and then realized I was equally interested in categories of beauty products where I have *not* found a HG item. My list of HEBIs is as long as my HGs:

1. facial moisturizer
2. foundation
3. bronzer
4. blush
5. lipstick (either color or formulation)
6. concealer (both for under eye and spots)
7. hand cream
8. body moisturizer
9. face powder

I notice there are themes in this list. One is moisturizers--there are three here. Another is color--there are three or more depending on how you count.

So, what are your Highly Elusive Beauty Items? And are there any themes?

Lipstick used to be one thing that I was always in search of "the one." For over a year now I have been using Fresh. I love the feel of it, unlike how I feel about most lipsticks and glosses. It comes in several colors and I like rose, which looks like how a natural lip would look if it had that perfect color! I also like the plum for just a bit more color.

One moisturizer that I use consistently is the Olay in shower moisturizer. You rub it all over wet skin and then rinse it off. It's quick, easy, inexpensive and it works.

Susie, I've been wanting to try Fresh for a while! Great to hear your testimonial! The Olay moisturizer sounds good too.

Minnie, some of your items are the same as mine! I like the Pureology hydrate line for shampoo and conditioner.

Mine are fragrance and mascara. For the life of me, I cannot find a mascara I am happy with.

A really effective/no buildup root-touchup product between hair dyes. (Not the ones where you dye just the roots, the ones where you apply it like makeup).

I have yet to find the perfect concealer, so right now I am using smashbox hydrating undereye primer instead of concealer.

Concealer, definitely.

Because they always say to go one shade lighter than your foundation. Um, that would be...whiteout?

I use Lancome Effecernes but it isn't perfect and I suspect has started to irritate.

Inexpensive body moisturizer that I'm not allergic to. I go through a ton of it and the pricey stuff really does take a toll out of the budget.

Lyn* have you tried pure tea tree oil for spots? I've used it for ages but thought it wasn't great so switched to various other creams and realised that spots took ages to go whereas with the tea tree oil they were gone within a couple of days

My HIBI are cruelty free lipbalm and hair styling cream to replace my HG ones x

Deb, I keep buying fragrance, but I think it's more because I love it than because I can't find my HG. My current favs are Cartier Baiser Vole for work and Hermes Eau de Nil for weekends. I also like D&G Rose the One and Chanel No. 5 Eau Premier.

Lyn, my Effaclar Duo keeps most of them away when used daily, but I don't know of a good spot treatment either.

Rabbit, that would be great! My roots need help this very moment! My roots are very dark with bright shiny white interspersed--not a good look!

Nicole, the concealer thing is SO hard. My undereye circles have gotten so dark that nothing will hide them, but I would settle for something that covered 75% and actually lasted all day.

Peri, I've quit going light for undereye concealer and have been quite happy1

Freckles, have you tried the unscented medical-sounding ones like Lubriderm? My sister is allergic to a lot of lotion and she can handle that one.

Louise, that is a great tip about tea tree oil! I've heard of using it this way but I am glad to hear the testimonial! I have ordered some and can't wait to try it!

I keep trying things, but really could use a nice under eye depuffer (although it seems this is most likely genetic so I continue to send bad money after good)
Lyn - I rarely get zits, but when I do I have a clear gell from Murad that works on them. I used to swear by Mario Badescu drying lotion (smelled awful and looked like pepto bismol but really worked wonders), but I really only need one so I have a 3/4 full Murad at the moment.

Thanks Adelfa. Yes Lubiderm is okay but too light, not enough moisturizing. Maybe I should get another bottle and put it on first and then the glaxal base. That way I would feel like something actually sunk into my skin so instant relief.

jj, that's good to know! Is is salicylic acid?

Freckles, you need some serious stuff there! Have you tried that Cetaphil Cream (not lotion) that comes in a tub and is really thick? I've found that to be pretty emollient.
