Help with sizing: J. Crew jacket

This J. Crew bright berry hacking jacket is NOT styled (nor am I; thus, no head) and this size 0 seems very snug in the arms due to the double serge wool. I'm tempted to return it for a size 2, but am concerned about the shoulders being too big.

The gold buttons are still covered and the back vent still sewn.

I know it all gets down to personal comfort. What are your thoughts on the fit?

Vicki, it's gorgeous. Do you think you'll wear it mostly with long-sleeved tops? Have you tried it with a sleeveless top? It looks good from the front, but if it feels awful, that's not nice. From the back it is harder to tell, with the vent sewn. Can you order the 2 for comparison and send back the one that is less good?

I'm normally a LS wearer, but will try a sleeveless right now. Yes, I probably could get the 2 although I think there's a 10% restocking fee.

I wish I had sized up in my navy blazer that I got last year. I have a feeling the super-snug fit is waning and more ease is coming our way. We can only hold our arms at our sides for so long, after all!

Hm, it *looks* perfect. Have you tried speaking with a J. Crew rep? I emailed them once about the fit of tall pants versus regular, and they gave wonderfully knowledgeable and detailed responses. They may know if the jacket will loosen up with wear.

I think the back vent will splay open when unstitched. There's strain there now.

It does look like a perfect fit in the photo.

Have you tried layering all your prospective base layers underneath?

Try it on with a tank, short sleeved top, turtleneck, long sleeved blouse. If it feels comfortable with all those combinations, then keep. If you can't style it comfortably with the base layers, then you know you'll need to return it and try sizing up anyway.

J.Crew has a restocking fee? First I've heard of it, although I've never mailed in returns (I just take them to the store) so maybe it's an online thing.

Anna, good eyes. I'm thinking it might open up even more in the back,too. KL, this is a secondary seller, not J. Crew.

I emailed them asking if they would waive the restocking fee if I decide to do a size comparison. Sometimes shopping is so easy and then there are days like today. Grin and carry on. LOL, Claire, on the arms being held at our sides for only so long.

I checked out both your thread.s. I had this jacket and ended up consigning it because the shoulders always bugged me. I didn't find any stretch to occur over time, and I can't stand that armbound feeling. You are much slighter than me in the shoulders so it may not be a problem. Also, I found the sleeves hard to scrunch with the buttons and thicker wool.

You LOOK great, just adding those tips in case they matter to you!

Thanks, that does help! I always appreciate the road-tested stories and can tell by the fabric's thickness, this may be the case, especially with scrunching. It will definitely keep me warm, so I'm thinking about returning it for the larger size.
