Help with necklace?

I purchased this brass chain mail and copper dangle necklace two years ago from a local shop. I like how the bottom echo's the hemline of un-tucked tops. I also like the swishing sound the copper pieces make when I walk around. However, it leaves a dark residue on all my clothing which is hard to wash out and I'm not sure if it's from the brass or the copper? Yikes!

I looked online and followed suggestions to wipe it with a microfiber cloth before wearing but it doesn't seem to help. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Agree with Diana,clear nail polish works best. I've done this with my jewelry in the past and it works brilliantly ☺

Really? That will be a lot of nail polish, it's a big necklace. Have you done it on a necklace this large?

I've only done it on rings and cuff bracelets where you only have to coat the side that touches your skin. All the little rings on your necklace might be tricky....

Yes! I used to bellydance and we wore a lot of tribal jewelry made from dubious metals (usually melted-down coins). We coated the backs of everything with clear nail polish.

I've done it on a couple of my necklaces because I'm allergic to metal and anything metal rubbing against my skin gives me rashes in minutes. Yes it's going to be a lot of nail varnish and patience and time,but it won't stain your clothes after for sure because of the film it will create.
I'll research though if there's another way and let you know ☺

On second thoughts, If you do choose the nail polish I would HIGHLY recommend the Revlon Colorstay range, purely because the brush on that is huge and that will cut your work in HALF!

Diana, thanks so much for the suggestion for nail polish. I had thought about that but I wasn't sure it would work for clothing also I have never had any experience with doing this before. I am fortunate that I don't react to metal. I know many people who do though!

Thanks Ankita! I will try to find that brand and brush because it is definitely going to take some time and effort! Maybe even with a large brush. My DD is in town and she and I are about to head out for some errands so we can go look soon. I can repost some results once I have tried this.

Jenn, I think it's awesome that you were a belly dancer in the past! I have always wondered what it would be like to take lessons! It looks like fun, and very challenging. Thanks for your input!!

The possible solutions as I see it:
1. Wear it with dark colors.
2. Shorten it so it is above the neckline.
3. Give it away.

I like how the brown of your specs picks up the brown in the earrings and necklace. NICE.

What about just spraying it with a clear varnish. You can get matte or shiny finishes.

I would suggest Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic spray. Just put that baby in a shoebox, and spray away!

I'm voting for a spray finish as well. There are a lot of different options out there.

Love the necklace by the way. It's funny that you like the sound of it as well. I have a few pair of earrings that sound like little wind chimes. I wiggle my head a lot when I wear them. Probably drives people nuts that I'm talking to.

I do like this necklace, must say. My first thought was nail polish too, but missvee has a good suggestion. The craft store must have some version that's easier to apply.

Great ideas everyone! Thanks for all the suggestions. Given my analytical nature, I almost want to try a combination of things just to see which works best. Too bad I don't have more than one necklace, but I may find a way to experiment just the same.

Angie, Its very true that I thought I was pear shaped, and it's because of my mother who told me that for years while I was growing up. Those demons from childhood can be hard to shake, especially when we don't realize they are present!
