Help with matching head accessories to dress

So, as some of you know, I will be wearing a teal petal dress during my wedding ceremony or for the reception. In any event, I'm not quite sure what kind of hair accessories would go with the dress. The headband would definitely go, but I've always had a soft spot for cocktail hats and fascinators, and would love to incorporate one if possible. The question is, does this fascinator go with the dress? It can be made in any number of colours.

I think the fascinator would look lovely. I guess if you want to wear both you could wear the head band and maybe a veil and then use the fascinator for the going away outfit. I wonder if you'd need different hair styles for each though.

Will you be wearing the dress for dancing? If so, you will want something that will stay put while jiving and won't poke your sweetie in the eye. I like the look of the hat but will leave it to the experts to chime in as to whether or not this is the best choice.

Lovely choices! I'll have to get myself a fascinator. Where did you find this one?

As for which is better, my preference would be for the headband. The dress to me reads a little glitzy, which matches the vibe of the headband. The fascinator to me reads a little more classic and not as good of a match for this particular dress.

I agree with Gigi, the headband is a better match for the style of the dress. The fascinator is beautiful, but I fear it would read as incongruous with the texture of the dress, whereas the headband echoes the texture.

I'm having trouble trying to visualise the fascinator with the dress without seeing them together, but it looks a little too substantial somehow. Something a bit lighter and in the same colour as your dress might work better.

I like the idea of a fascinator (and wouldn't chose the headband for the dress), but I think you need something less "classic" for a dress like this.

Boy, that's tough. I feel my mother would say go with the headband. The dress is fancy and the fascinator "everyday."

I know that begs the question of how a fascinator could be everyday...

Yes go with a fascinator, just not that one, something more "frivolous". Feathers maybe? Look at some UK websites for ideas and then try on stuff at Ardene or Claire (teenybopper accessories shops) to see how it looks on, and then order something from an Etsy crafter.

I vote fascinator, but something a little less heavy than the hat you've shown. Feathers, petals, maybe some tulle or netting. I think the wool felt material is a bit too heavy for the dress.

Also, you ned to consider how it's attached to the head. You can get them with combs, clips, or bands. Be aware if you get the comb, you need to have a hairstyle that can accommodate it/hold it up. I think the comb looks the nicest though bc you can't see it when it's in. whatever you choose, it's important that you bring/show it to your hairdresser ahead of time so they know. If you're doing a trial, that's a good time to do so. I had a heavy, beaded veil on a comb and they had to do some complicated braid thing in the updo to support it, but it ended up very secure.

Fascinator, but lighter - like Astrid posted. Have you thought of real flowers? How do you want to wear your hair on the day (up or down, high or low?)

Hair will probably be down. I hadn't considered real flowers, although I was looking at bohemian flower wreaths. Loved that sort of thing a decade ago, but am not really feeling it at the moment. While it's ridiculous to say this for wedding gear, I really do want items that I can wear again. I would, in fact, wear a fascinator to certain religious events, which is why I gravitated toward that white one. I contacted the designer, who thought that it would go with the dress, but she suggested making it more of a curve, to match the petal roundness of the dress. I imagine most of your concerns would still apply, even if that were the case.

Here's a better option, although I feel like opportunities to wear this again will be substantially fewer than if I selected one of the fascinators above:

The dress is pretty amazing. I think the headband will look simultaneously irrelevant and like gilding the lily, and the fascinator, not suited to what will be, even if there are lots of people, a private event. They look large public gathering to me, like the Kentucky Derby or a royal ceremonial event, possibly appropriate for a wedding guest but not the bride.
Is an elaborate hairstyle with no accessories out of the question? And maybe a veil worn just for the ceremony?

I love all of Runcarla's beautiful suggestions. Fresh flowers have a heart-lifting quality, and even a simple gardenia pinned behind one ear would be better than a fascinator, I think. But then, I must confess to loathing fascinators, so if you really love them, ignore me.
