Help with holiday outfits, Part 1 (aka I don't know how to dress up)

Preamble: I really do NOT know how to dress up and still feel myself. I'm hatin' this.

OK, here are some outfits built around a Talbot's wine-colored sequin tank (tags still on) - NO ACCESSORIES yet. The occasion will be pretty casual - a family get-together.

Options on the bottom - BR Martins, blue skinnies, long&leans, black skinnies

Options for a topper - black blazer (I tried a black cardi, but didn't think it looked very good in the photos).

Options for shoes - animal print flats (would have to be with sheer black socks), black booties, or ??? I realize I have NO OTHER OPTIONS. Ugh. I think I have a shoe wardrobe gap. Ideas?

Thoughts? Sorry this is so pic heavy.

I like #1 or #2 best. I think dark wash jeans would work too, but I'm not caring for the light wash with the other dressy stuff. I'm looking forward to hearing what others think.

Hey Sarah - I really like #1 and #6. I find light wash jeans are not dressy enough and suited to being paired with other casual items. I personally love the animal print flats with the outfit. That tank is absolutely gorgeous and the colour is beautiful on you.

However, if you INSIST on keeping it instead of passing it along to me, then I really love looks #1 and #6. FAB with the animal print shoes! And flats will be comfy for you, no?

I think it could also work with the boots and a darker wash non-black jean. And I also think it could work with lighter wash jeans if you had a different topper. But why stress it? You have two fantastic outfits already and can choose between trousers and black jeans in the moment, depending how you feel.

Okay. Now. What skirts do you have that might work with this top? What tall boots? Can you do a jeans tucked look with it?

I like #6 or #7 best of the options. I think a sparkly tank is a great way to say festive without feeling totally done up, and uncomfortable, in a full party frock ensemble!

I'm glad you like the tank, and it sounds like people are definitely liking the darker bottoms.

Suz - I have 2 pairs of black boots that might work - a pair of heeled boots and Cole Haans from NAS. I have 2 pencil skirts - black and grey. That's about it. But I'm not sure what to do with them with this top! I'm feeling a bit pathetic.

I like #1 and #6. I am not an expert on shoes and socks but how about wearing these flats with nude-colored socks or knee-highs?

I vote #6... I also like 7, but the animal print shoes of #6 have me smitten.

You don't look pathetic at all. You look great! I even like the fun "juxtaposition" of the sparkly top with the light jeans for an occasion when you want to be more casual.

Others have made some really good comments, but I just wanted to say that when you are in mostly black, those animal print flats are magic for bookending with your hair. However, if there is three feet of snow on the ground I will allow you to wear the boots, lol! You look just terrific in sparkle! Please have fun with this top and "own it" because you look fab!

I like #6 and #7! Both are great! I love the sparkliness! I ordered that tank too, but in a different color.....

Do you feel like yourself in that outfit? That's important too!

I like #6 the best. I like the fit of #6 bottoms better than #1 and I think the all black really make the top POP! I also like how the shoes pick up the color of the sequins.

Love the top. I know I am not in sync with everyone on this one but I like the wider leg pant with the outfit. I would prefer it to be dark though. My initial reaction was to like it with the boots but when I looked through the second time, I preferred the shoe to the boot.

Okay, I am no help at all. Sorry. I do love the top and jacket though.

#1...skip the bling if you're not feeling like yourself. in this outfit, you're just wearing jeans and a tshirt to a party! how easy is that!

Sarah, just wanted to mention that you look so great in your holiday outfits, especially in this burgundy sparkly top, that I ended up buying a (slightly different) burgundy top at Talbots today "just in case" I get invited to a holiday party.

Sarah, #1 and #7 look fabulous! That top is gorgeous. One of the differences I notice between Australian and American style is that Americans (and I know this is a sweeping generalisation) love to dress up for an occasion and sparkles and shine are popular. Ive got to get me some sparkle

Deborah - its' funny, I've never really had anything with sparkle before except jewelry, so this is a whole new holiday for me ; ). I'm looking forward to those pewter shoes. I'm beginning to think that I'll never want to wear black shoes again!

I love the burgundy sparkly tank! I think it looks very *you* paired with the jacket and dark jeans, but still very dressy and festive. I could go either way with the flats vs. boots, though I do bat for Team Boots, fer sure.

I cannot tell the difference between black skinnies in #1 and 6 so I like both and either flats or boots. you can wear outfits with jeans to work if jeans are allowed (they would be OK in my office) or maybe use darker wash jeans there. I often wear my sequined black top with jeans and a jacket to work! Love your top BTW - very pretty color on you!

I'm late to this party, but I love #7. You look gorgeous in that ensemble Sarah. Snip the tags off of that top immediately. It belongs with you. That jacket is smashing too. For somebody who says she doesn't know how to dress up, I must say, you did an excellent job of faking it!

Without reading the other comments, I have to say that I love #1 and #7 the best. The animal print flats are a fun touch and bookend with your hair.

I think you look fantastic, so I don't know what you're talking about when you say that you don't know how to dress up. I like it with the dark pants best, with the animal print flats. Honestly, I like the straight legs and the skinnies in black about equally. I love the top on you - the colors great, and it's a nice amount of sparkle.
