Help with boot decision - YouLookFab Forum

I am trying to decide between 2 pairs of ankle boots and I need help with all pros and cons. The 2 pairs in question (both in black):

Background - I am looking for a pair for every day use, something comfortable that would go with a wide range of outfits. Currently I only have 2 pairs of boots, both about the same height, one casual brown pair and one dressy black with pointy toes (they are nice but not very comfortable... I recently decided not to buy any more pointy toes). I am not sure about patent and how versatile it would be - my first reaction was that it's too much, esp. with the new MK trench that is sort of shiny. They are also more expensive and I don't know I'd wear them that frequently to justify the price. I am also not quite the type to make a statement with footwear But are the non-patent boots too plain?

I would appreciate any thoughts! I have both pairs a home right now and I think the first ones are a bit more comfortable.

If you don't like to wear the pointy toed boots very often, are the black patent ankle boots ones that you could wear with dressier outfits as well as casual outfits? That might make them more versatile. Have you tried them on with different outfits? That might help you decide. It sounds like you are leaning toward the non-patent boots -- I don't think they are too plain, just a simple style that will complement an outfit and be comfortable.

Love the patent ones!! Once you start wearing patent leather shoes a few times it won't feel like "too much" anymore.

Hmmm this is a tough one. The patent ones are funkier and more modern, IMO. The first ones are simple and classic looking--but perhaps too much so.

I'm inclined to say to go with the ones that are the most comrfortable. It seems that the ones that are most comfortable on your foot are also the most comfortable emotionally.

Maybe neither boot is for you and you should keep looking. (sorry to throw that curve ball, but it seems like you are not in love with either pair.)

I'd encourage the black patent too, but if you don’t love them, carry on looking.

HOWEVER, you might love them after wearing them a few times. I believe they are an excellent choice if the ankle part doesn’t cut into your shins while you walk. Thumbs up!

I think they are both very nice and I've heard that it is a great brand. The non patent look somewhat like mens shoes to me, at least in the picture. Could be very different when they are worn.
The patent is pretty.

Marianne, since you're going to wear these often, I would go with the one that feels most comfortable. Maybe you can wear each for a day indoors and see how each stands the test of several hours of time in them.

I'll also support the patent ones. I was very weary of the patent when it just showed up and avoided it. Then it started growing on me and I bought a pair of shoes. It took me a long time to strated wearing, but after I did there was no stopping me Now I have quite a few pairs of patent shoes that are regularly being worn. I even got a pair of tall black patent boots ( am yet to wear those ).

The patent ones are great but if it is not you, you just might avoid wearing them, then again avoiding new styles might not be the best thing. Hope that does not make things worse. I have a pair of that brand boot and they are really comfortable and waterproof. I got a classic style that is really boring and I would love to replace them with something more modern. I think that there may be more styles in that brand that would be both comfortable and a little more modern. I don't think you could go wrong with either, although I do prefer the patent.

Only a year or two ago I would not have considered anything patent, but recently I bought a cracked patent bag after reading Angie's blog, and it feels perfectly natural to me now. I get lots of compliments on it. I think patent is back and looks better than ever. My mind was stuck on little girls maryjane patent shoes I guess.

Thank you for your opinions, ladies, they are very helpful. I realize that I haven't completely got used to patent. I have a few pairs of patent flats, but boots and bags still seem like a lot of patent to me. I guess I will think about it for a few days. I don't see that many low heel ankle boots that are both comfortable and reasonably looking, so I hope at least one of them will end up working. Thanks for your help!
