Ah, ok. Humalog and Lantus. Did you know spellcheck turns 'Humalog' into 'Hum slog'? 10 units, you say? That's not so much as these things go. (Smaller amounts, btw, can have their own special trickiness - like the dose doesn't last as long.) You're pretty tiny (I think), and also type 2 and Caucasian, yes? By comparison, I take 3 Lantus in the morning and from 1-3 Lantus in the evening. I'm not so big either, but I've got the Chinese genes, am type 1, and have the bakery job (which is heavy lifting and on your feet nonstop).
I totally recommend seeing the dietitian as well as the educator. Working out target carbs, etc., for YOU will make such a difference. 15 carbs is a snack. I could not go four hours on 15.
I carry mini cokes in case of a low. Doesn't spoil and there's no faster delivery of sugar - except juice, but that goes bad. Can you tell when you're low?
It is way fun to wave ones gear around! Hehe. The needles most peeps have experience with are vaccinations and blood draws. Blood draw needles esp... Those are giant hose pipes, so they can go deep and don't squish up the blood cells. Needles for insulin are small - sometimes I can't even tell if I've gotten it in. But who knows that? One just remembers the phlebotomist who couldn't find a vein with their gigantic pointy hose pipe. You're all like, I can't believe you can't hit something with that! Hehe.
Anyways, the needle is your friend. Because I was so old when I developed type 1, they thought I was type 2 at first. All I can say is, my experience - managing with diet and exercise is a pain in the patootey. The nurse wanted to show me compassion and cry with me over scary needles and stuff. I was like, give me the $@#*! needle!
