Help me figure out this jacket

I bought this jacket a couple of years ago, actually with my niece in mind, but it didn't fit her right. Well, it does fit me, but I've had it in and out of the sell/donate pile because I just can't figure it out.

I threw it on over what I'm wearing around the house this morning, just as a blank slate. I haven't a clue how to style this, or whether it's worth it on me. Is this a bad color on me? It's kind of a warmish off-white, almost a bone color, whereas I usually go for cooler, brighter whites. I'm wearing no makeup here and have bed head so please ignore that.

It still has tags on. What do you think? Sell or keep? If keep, how the heck do I style this?

How about brightening it up with some of your minty items, or dark red?

Thanks, columbine! Great color suggestions. I am less sure about silhouette when it comes to this jacket. I don't do tucked tops with high-waists, so I'm wondering about layering this with long tops. And then what about jeans -- better with BFs, skinnies, flares? Etc.

Because if I'm going to keep this, I need to be able to work it into casual looks with jeans.

Thanks, Anna. The color is a big question mark for me -- it seems like you are seeing it too. And with this style of collar/neck, it is not easy to use a scarf or other layer in a more flattering color -- that would just obscure the nice lines...

IK, we cross posted. I hear you. I have a really great jacket collection that is easy to work with. Good reminder. Maybe I should add this to Style Exchange -- I've already flooded it this morning!

Columbine, I just don't wear my skirts enough, and when I do, they get dressed down with denim or leather jackets.

I think it would be great over a dress.. esp a sheath dress. But the wrong white can really drag one down, so if it's doing that,and as IK said, you have to work too hard, maybe passing it on is the best thing.

Janet - have you tried it over a column of color? Sheath dress? Wide leg trousers with same color top (kind of kate hepburn?), le smoking with white jacket? I think it needs to stand alone as a statement.

Janet this jacket looks current and cool on you. I like it better with the sleeves down. Somehow the rolls look cluttery and take away from the sharp cutout effect of the light lapels over the dark tee. If you want the sleeves shorter maybe scrunching would look better, or just hem the sleeve length a little and keep that sleeve down.

I think the color is "fine" on you, but maybe something in blue or turquoise up by your face, or maybe that color of tee shirt under the bone white. It's just a neutral so don't be afraid if its the perfect white or not.

I like it with the boyfriends. I also think you could use this jacket to do a sort of "tux" look with black trousers and mannish oxfords for flats, or a sexy heel for a feminine tux look. What do you think of that? Perhaps a new workhorse!

Janet, I don't mind the jacket, but I'm not sure that it's your style. It seems a little too clean-cut or something. I agree with RunCarla that you have better stuff in your closet. If you keep this jacket, will you want to wear it instead of something else already in your closet? If it's not so great that you would pass over your existing toppers, I vote to donate it.

I love it! I am not sure it is the right colour for you but it looks great with the jeans. Warm cream is probably not the way to go for you. You tend to shine in rich blues and jewel tones.

Is this the Frenchi jacket? I have it in black. I've worn it over a tonal black with skinnies or a pencil skirt.

I could see it with a lower contrast top underneath. On the whole though, I'm feeling like Runcarla and IK that it doesn't feel fab enough for you.

Janet- agree that the yellow-ish undertones are not optimal. We have similar coloring and I can't wear most bone colors either. Your superlative jacket collection may take this out of the game.

The shape of the jacket is interesting. Because of its lines, I'd style it with a straight hemmed top with a very simple, slightly higher neckline to showcase the details.

Oh yes, the quirky, arty jacket. I fell under the spell of those too. I am not necessarily against the color (and I don't know, but maybe you could have it dyed...) I would actually try a similarly colored t-shirt underneath for less contrast, so you'd have a hint of the interesting lines but it wouldn't be screaming out. Maybe that's awfully faint praise. I think it could work but maybe it's not worth it to you with so many stellar jackets already in your closet. (ETA that CocoLion had the same thought, before me!)

If it were black or dark-hued it could function as a pretty cool tuxedo jacket! It might be a lot more versatile.

Sorry I couldn't get back in here sooner, but thanks for all the good ideas and feedback. It is absolutely true that I have a wonderful jacket collection that already gives me plenty of options, including white leather moto and white denim jacket which are so comparatively easy to style. This is dressier, and the cut really appeals to me, but the color is not so easy. I don't really do tonal white/light looks very much, but I may play around with the items in my closet and see if anything strikes me before I give this up. But don't be surprised if you see this jacket pop up in Style Exchange.

I'm new to the community, so I don't know your style yet - but I really don't love that colour on you against your skin. I'm not sure it would be worth the effort to sort this one out, but I think it's a very interesting piece. In general I love those items - things that are simple but with a small twist. I can see why you'd want to find a way to wear it.

It's the color that is throwing me off Janet - but I know that it's really hard to tell on a computer monitor the "true" colors of an item. I LOVE the style of the jacket - the cut of the lapels - sort of a sculputural look. If the color worked for you, I'd wear it with everything. I wouldn't worry about "styling" it per say - I'd just throw it on over my jeans, regardless if they were BFs or skinnies! I think its a cool jacket!

I actually think the cut of this is not the issue. It's the color. What about over a graphic tee or one of your patterned dresses?
