Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Help me clean my closet!

In preparation for the Big Sale this Friday, I wanted to clean out my closet. Much like cleaning out the refrigerator before a trip to Costco. :)
I hardly ever wear dresses because I'm not keen on my legs. But I do think they are nice for the summer.
Any comments or suggestions on any or all of my dresses would be appreciated. Right now I only wear dresses to church because my boss keeps our office so cold.
Thank you!

You have great legs...not sure why you don't like to show them off. They are shapely and long and well toned.

I love the green dress on you! Actually the only dress I didn't care for was the Walmart one...the pattern formed a horizontal line from a distance and I think it made you look hippy. I couldn't tell about the last dress either, but from the photo it looked a little too big.

I've never liked my legs. I think even though I'm losing weight and toning up I still view myself the way I used to be.
The BR dress is a bit roomy. Interesting thought on the Wal Mart dress.

I also loved the green dress and the wrap dresses on you. My least favorites were the Walmart dress and the Steve Madden (but I'm not sure why). Is the BR dress a little too big in the skirt part? Also, I wonder if it is just a bit too long. Is it made of a stiffer fabric?

The BR dress is a stiffer jersey knit. And yes, it is roomy. I'm pretty sure that one will have to go. I just wasn't sure if it was great enough to keep for this fall.
Hm, I don't have a Steve Madden dress. Could you be referring to the Adriana P. dress?

The green dress is my favourite by far - I think it's because of the A-line shape, which also makes your legs look thinner.

My favorite is the Alfani brown wrap dress. I think it looks absolutely perfect on you. If you fear it's boring (it's not :-)) then add some bright shoes and/or jewelry. Keep it, pleeze, you look great in it!

I do wear a coral/gold bracelet with that Alfani dress. It's a large bangle that's one half coral and one half matte gold.
I love those shoes, but they may not be the best for that dress.

I love the Adriana Papell dress!!! You have beautiful legs and wear heels so well, I wish you appreciated how good you look in dresses and heels.
The only one I didn't care for is the Banana Republic dress. All the others look great and I think they are styles that will look good for years to come. If ever an event comes up requiring a dress you're set.

Is there a way I could dress down the Max Studio dress for weekends? (Shopping, etc.)

I like all of the first five dresses, and the last two are my least favorites. The green dress looks amazing on you!!

Green all the way! Fantastic. The last two dresses don't flatter as much. If you are concerned about one of the outfits (No. 2) being boring, maybe consider a pop of color with shoes. I'm a big fan of that.

Check out Endless.com:
Nine West Kenny in yellow
Nine West Roedy Mary Jane Pump also in yellow. I have this one. It is comfy and versatile!
I also have a green pump that goes with so many things.

I would kill for longer legs like yours (okay, maybe not kill, but definitely steal someone's lunch money--and then feel guilty and share my sandwich. You know what I mean). :D

You look great in a dress! And with Austin's weather, you probably get a lot of use out of them. This is what I like:

Green dress hands down is my favorite! That shape is very flattering. Then I like the brown Alfani wrap dress, Max Studio dress, Adrianna Papell dress, and the Tahari dress (in that order). I would probably chuck the Walmart dress and the BR is just too big for you.

The Max Studio dress you could dress down by wearing some flat, metallic or white thong type sandals and carrying a more casual bag, maybe wicker or something. Also, is your hair long enough to pull back into a bun or pony tail? You could wear a thin headband with your hair pulled back:

You look amazing in dresses! Great shapely long legs and a nice curvy body. The perfect prerequisite. Here’s my order:

1. Brown wrap Alfani dress
2. Green J Crew dress
3. Max studio Kimono dress
4. Adriana Papell dress

They’re all keepers.

Sorry, I meant the Max Studio dress, but looking again I think you should keep it. It looks like it could be a comfortable day dress with wedges or flat shoes and casual bag.

My votes in descending order:
- Alfani brown wrap
- J. Crew green
- Pappel
- Max Studio

You look great in dresses Sarbear!

Wow, thank you all so much for your input. I grew up with two sisters and we constantly gave our opinions on the others' clothing - solicited or not. I miss that now, so this has been great.
I think I will keep all the dresses but the BR and Wal Mart wrap. The trick is going to be actually wearing them! I think the Tahari wrap dress is better off saved for the fall with boots.
And thank you for the thoughts on the Max Studio dress! I will look for some sandals and a more casual bag (horrors I know, but I only have two bags). I think this dress could be appropriate for shopping on the weekends, etc.

I'm a bit late to chime in but I was going to say I really like all the dresses but the last two (which you mentioned you don't think you'll keep). Know that you have great legs (and overall a lovely figure) and you wear dresses very well, so I hope you will consider wearing them more often.

so, i too realize im a bit late on the topic - i guess i avoided the post b/c, well, help clean your closet?!? i dont even want to clean my own! :P i dont like having to think about that chore at the moment :)

anyway, here's my commentary, despite its tardiness:

tahari black wrap - love it but needs some color. maybe a belt would work. not sure if it has a built-in belt, but, if so, you could try hiding it under another belt. or you could do a bold necklace. lots a opportunities to jazz it up with color :)

alfani wrap - love it! the shoes aren't my absolute fave, but that's just personal preference. ive never been a fan of mary janes. but i think you pull them off nicely. i dont think its too boring - again, just an opportunity to add style with accessories. id recommend maybe some pearls for a classic look or a chunky bracelet. i think you mentioned a gold/coral bracelet that might look nice with this.

adriana papell - hands down, my favorite! this style is very becoming! again, id do some pearls or that gold/coral bracelet you mentioned. i could also see some wooden jewelry looking nice with this. or you could do orange-red or hot pink as an accent color, maybe in a cropped cardi or pashmina for when the weather cools off.

max studio - i initially didn't care for this one much, but the more i look at it, the more i like it. it initially looked a little shapeless, but adding a belt might emphasize the waist a bit more and enhance your figure. i noticed it's shorter than most of your dresses, which is fine b/c you can totally pull it off. to wear it in winter though, you could try it with some dark tights and black boots. you could also try a black turtleneck under it. then just add a chunky gold pendant necklace, and you're off to the races!

j crew green - love the color and the shoes are great with it! it looks just a tad bridesmaid-y, so id do a cropped cardigan with it. maybe pink or turquoise. or you could try doing a belt over it.

walmart wrap dress - it's not my favorite. if it had a straighter skirt, rather than taper slightly at the bottom, it would look a little better - kind of like the papell dress. i'd probably toss it.

br sheath - ive seen better :) i think it would need to be shortened. also, i agree that it looks a little too big in the skirt. if you're not totally in love with it , id toss it.

Shell, thank you for your reply! You are not tardy...I haven't made the consignment shop trip yet.
Tahari black wrap dress - THIS is the dress I was calling "boring". A basic black dress is perfect for fall for my lifestyle, but I couldn't think of ways to make it interesting. It is a wrap dress, so the belt is attached. But I bet I could find a way to wear a belt over the tie somehow.
So far I'm getting rd of the BR sheath dress and the Wal Mart wrap dress.
