Help, I need some advice on how to wear this jacket.

Hi, everyone, now that we determined what jacket to wear what do I wear with it? What colour underneath and jewelry? What colour purse? As you can see I am nervous about this function. I really want to look good.

This is a bold pattern but because it is in black and white it is pretty versatile.
Color wise - black and white is no brainer but grey (light and dark) well. Taupe maybe another option.
You can also add a color into a mix. Any bright colors would work as well as jewel colors (cobalt, emerald, ruby red). Pastels and muted earthy color are trickier but can be pulled off too. I can see this jacket over a blush blouse and black or white pants for example - very chic.
Sheath dress, pencil skirt and slim pants are the easiest to wear with it. Bootcuts and flared jeans should work too. Even boyfriend jeans and track pants can work - you just need the right footwear.
This is a great jacket - experiment and enjoy!

It sounds like you have a particular event you're going to -- is that correct? Maybe if you give some details about the event (what it is, how dressy or casual it is) people will be able to help you more.

Also, are you wanting to wear something you already own or are you going to buy items to wear with the jacket?

not sure what kind of event you are going to, but i'd wear this over a simple column of color, either black or white, so that the jacket is the star. for the top i'd wear a scoop neck, for the pants, i'd wear straight, skinny or cigarette legs.

This is a lovely jacket, Maggs, and should be very versatile for you. I see it over a column of colour, either black, red or cobalt blue, if those colours suit you. I'd go for a sheath dress, or a pencil skirt or slim pants with a nice blouse. If you go with black, you could add a pop of colour in your bag and/or shoes, or stick with the monochrome colour theme.

As for jewellery, how about a silver necklace (short or pendant) or pearls if you like those. It depends on the dressiness of the event, and your preferred style of dressing. Good luck with your outfit.

You could go casual with this one or dressy...
For casual, I would add leggings, a longish top and shooties/heels
The color palate could be creme, white, black, gray...
There is a similar coat in the Feb issue of Instyle that is similarly styled...
For dress, a dress of one of the above colors, pants, etc...
Not knowing what your event that you are planning to wear this, it is hard to project a style..
I purchased a wonderful jacket about this long in January and I wear it with everything...It truly goes form casual to dressy and is the something extra with each outfit...

thanks everyone, you were very helpful. The event is semi formal. I am self conscious about it because I put on weight. I am seeing people I haven't seen in years so I am kind of nervous.

I suit Red, oranges, etc. I am a fall color. I am wearing black skinny pants with it. I am just not sure what color top or what kind.

I really appreciate all the help.

Also, what color makeup and nail polish. help......

I'd do a black top to make a column of color. As far as makeup goes, it would depend on your coloring. But red nail polish is always appropriate! Red/orange or a blue/red, depending on your skin tone. A friend of mine has a similar jacket and wears it with a black top and pants; she also usually wears it with a shortish silver bead necklace. It looks great.

Second retailgirl's suggestion for a column of color...I would add some hot shoes to really make it sing..silver jewelry...and red nailpolish lipstick and they will be saying," She looks absolutely FAB"..Best...

Another vote here for the column-of-color effect, and I would make the black top silky--something with a fairly deep and drapey v-neck. Red lipstick & lots of mascara would be very glam. Also second Crutcher's suggestion about hot-looking shoes. (Did you see the gorgeous black ones Rabbit is wearing in her scarf thread?) Silver jewelry would be appropriate, but something sparkly like a long looped necklace of crystals might take the outfit to another level. It's a great jacket, bold and graphic. You will look terrific, so have fun!

I agree with a black top and a mass of necklaces or one bold long one or a coloured long scarf.

I love the jacket's graphic black & white. I think you can wear anything from neutrals to neon with it. How about taupe shoes and a turquoise shell? Or orange shoes and a red bag?
As far as jewelry goes, I think that a black necklace would work, but it needs to be a bolder necklace than the one you are showing. That one is just too delicate and sort of disappears with the bold pattern, so pick a bolder necklace - gold, silver, or frankly any color would look great. I would say that if you have a favorite color, you can probably find a statement necklace right now in that color, at price points from $5 to $500.
I think that it would look the best if you DON'T do all black/white with it. That would perhaps look a bit dull. Make sure there is some color in your accessories & it will really take your look to the next level.
