Has anyone DIYed distressed jeans?

And should I try with my new slim BF's on the way - or just leave them be? Here is the wash, dark vintage. http://www.mytheresa.com/en-de.....jeans.html

I work with animals, so all my jeans wind up distressed sooner or later.
I love the jeans as is, but if you want to give the DIY distressing a go, I say try it. What hole were you trying to fill when you purchased these jeans? Will they still suit their purpose if they are distressed?

I've thought about it, but I'm always afraid I'll ruin them, especially since I have a lot of pricey jeans. I was considering buying another pair of SBFs on sale and ripping them up a bit though.

ETA: I'll add that if you are thinking about making holes in them, you're probably going to have to reinforce them so they don't continue to grow. I used an iron on thin fabric interfacing from the inside to reinforce the holes in my (pre-distressed) holey jeans when they started to grow too much.

I was thinking cheese grater or sandpaper on the pocket seams and maybe across a thigh, but not holes all the way through. True that trying it on expensive jeans may not be the smartest thing. Maybe on my old Levi's first . . .
These jeans are to be my version of the BF look. Not too oversized but slightly roomy. For work and play.

Yeah, I would practice on something cheaper first. Maybe get some at the thrift store or on ebay?

Okay, I dug out my Levi's but not sure they can 'pass' as BF's. I can get a slight drop crotch but they are not loose by any means. I guess I could practice distressing on these, but not sure they will give me that BF look. They are demoted to around the house chore jeans so nothing lost I guess?

EDIT: (pics 4 - 6) here is a round with the cheese grater. I'd say it gives authentic wear marks. I didn't want to rip them through. Works best on seams and pockets. Might get more daring with it but wanted to start small

Cheese grater did a nice job, I love the distressing. Bonus points for the cute slippers.

I have. I used a dremel and it works really well but you have to use a really light touch. Sandpaper is a good idea just take longer. I used sandpaper once to soften really stiff jeans.
