Dear YLF,
I have not written in a while, but I've been busy in my closet! I received some lovely petite size *waving to Mo* wooden hangers from DH for Mother's Day.
Yeah, it was really romantic. It went like this. I had the hangers in my cart at Amazon. DH and I were sitting on the couch in front of the TV, laptops in hand. During the commercial I leaned over and said, "Hey, wanna hit the 'buy now' button and buy me a prezzie?" Barely even looking, he reached over, hit the button and said, "Happy Mother's Day."
I had to get my wardrobe whittled down because I didn't want to buy hundreds of hangers. Sometime over the winter, I got the idea to have a more season-less wardrobe. (Duh, I've lived here almost 9 years and I still was trying to maintain seasons with my clothing.) I figured I'd rather have a few things in heavy rotation than lots of weird odd-ball wooly, fuzzy things that only looked right for that one cold night I walk around and look at Christmas lights. I have bought and purged and bought and purged and I don't know if I'm any more stylish, but I'm figuring out what I like at least!
Angie and YLF opened my eyes to the button front shirt, and then the blouse. Last summer I had a bunch of crisp cotton shirts, which were a step up from T-shirts but I didn't always like the stiff feel of them. Last winter, I discovered silk blouses and now I'm hooked. I think it might be more sophisticated to wear solids, but I love prints near my face. Someone made a comment a week or so ago on a thread about prints making them look "muddy" (sorry I can't remember who) and the penny dropped. With my muted coloring, muddy actually looks good on me (I think). And I love neutrals! I have always worn color, and I associate different colors with different times of the year. It's hard for me to wear burgundy in the spring, for instance. And I don't like it with black. I have a lot of hang-ups with color, but I feel appropriate in neutrals almost anytime anywhere. I feel especially good in them now that my hair is transitioning to grey.
So instead of doing the 10-item wardrobe to the letter (one for summer and one for winter), I have around 18-20 items (not including blazers/jackets) that can be worn pretty much year round. Instead of putting away my long jeans and long sleeved blouses and sweaters, I will use those for days I'll be in monster A/C and layer them accordingly. When I'm at home, I'll wear a skirt and a printed top and call it a day--shoes optional! So. . . without further ado, here is my "collection" (mostly thrifted, of course) on my shiny new hangers.
Also added for your viewing enjoyment is my new-to-me animal print twinset which I'm affectionately calling "roadkill" since there are several prints that overlap and fade into one another. The top has nice little holder for my bra straps. I found these Report sequinned sandals at Ross the other day, super comfy and add some fun to my all business khaki pencil. All tags are off so hold your peace everyone, lol. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
