Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

halogen jacket

Has anyone tried the ruffled jacket (Halogen) from Nordstrom? Would this style work on a busty apple? I am worried about the high neckline and the gathering under the band.

Well, I haven't tried it, so I wasn't going to reply..but that photo of Allie wearing it suggests it could work. She definitely is on the busty apple side of things and it looks good on her.

Thanks Medusa. I am pretty bad at recognizing shapes; I thought she was a hourglass. Do you think it would it work closed?

I really, really like this jacket! My concern would also be the high neckline. Do you think you would wear it unbuttoned at the top? or completely unbuttoned like Allie? The neckline doesn't look bad on Allie but it might be how she is wearing it.

I'd say it's definitely worth it to try it on!

I'm bad at recognizing shapes as well, so maybe what I said isn't right. I guess I'll agree with LauraN and suggest trying it on!

I think you can wear it, but maybe not have it all buttoned up like that (I don't even like how that looks on the small-of-bust). I like how it looks unbuttoned and I would totally wear it.

I love it on you. The color and details are lovely for you. Good choice.

Oh.. you are gorgeous and I think the jacket fits you well, just wear it unbottoned to create a vertical line.

Lori, I bought the ATL version of this jacket (almost identical but it features a waist tie). In fact, it is still hanging in my closet with the tags on - I think I have another week to decide whether or not I want to return it. I really like it but I don't know if it's all that flattering on me. I know the higher neckline is not the best but sometimes a busty girl likes to be a little buttoned up, you know what I mean? I'm bigger on top than I think you are but I think we are about the same size otherwise so I can post some pictures of my jacket and see what you think.

San & Rute, The lovely lady in the pics is style blogger and mom Allie (not me). She looks great, doesn't she? Shana, please do. I'd love to see how it looks. Nordstrom is trying to track down my size, will post pics when I get it.

Lori, I just uploaded these pics. Like I said, I am still undecided - I might start a separate post to help me decide. I really like the color, the slight ruffle, 3/4 sleeves etc. I know that buttoned up is a no no for bustier gals but you know, I am sick and tired of the v-necks and having my cleavage on display and I was yearning for something different. I suppose I could wear it with one or two buttons unbuttoned like the model. So this is actually almost a challenge outfit for me in terms of violating two rules for my body type - the high neckline and the belted waist (usually not advised for short-waisted busty people).

Oh, what's up with the skinny mirror in the store??? I feel like I look skinner in the store picture than when I took the pics at home...

Anyway, here they are - hope it helps:

Oh that looks beautiful on you!
I think I prefer it with the tie, it cinches in the waist on an otherwise boxy piece. I think this would esp. flatter an apple, right?
You could replicate the tie by using a belt on the Nordie one, I think.

Shana, I love it on you. I would say KEEP. The fit is good and the color is gorgeous on you.

Shana, I can't believe you have any doubts. It looks great on you. Please keep it!

Thanks everyone - I guess I'll keep it! I was afraid that it kind of made me look short & stout in a "I'm a little teapot" way...

Lori, in case you are interested, I saw tons of these jackets on sale at ATL today for $39.99 in Black & Cream. The navy was from earlier this year (I'm nearing my 3 month anniversary of having this hanging in my closet) so there are none left. Although it was available in petites, I actually bought it in a regular because I found the tie to be up too high on the petite version. The Nordstrom version definitely has some more exciting colors though...

Lori, are you still thinking of trying the Nordstrom version? It would be great to see some pictures....

Shana, that color looks great on you and the fit is perfect! It is a pity it has been languishing in your closet for so long. Can you use it when you are in Europe? The Halogen one is a ponte knit, so not sure if it will be as accommodating in fit.

Medusa, I've ordered it. Will post pics when I get it.

Laura, I plan to wear it in the fall so I hope it fits at least partly buttoned.

Shana I don't see any teapots in sight!!! The shape of the jacket is really great on you and I like the ruffle detail!! The only thing I notice is that the sleeves are a bit puffy on you at the openings. Havign said that I have no idea if that can be tailored. Either way if I were you I would keep. It looks smart and comfy at the same time!!

shana, I love this jacket on you! What teapot, who teapot??
It looks especially super with the white skinnies. Definitely keep. It looks like it will be a great transitional/fall piece. The color is great.

The earring peeking out from behind the star looks adorable. Is it yellow? And I keep meaning to tell you this but forget, you have a great view from your patio/deck!
