Haircut appointment next week--what style should I go for?

I am so bad at taking care of my hair! I haven't had a haircut since last October, and before that I hadn't had it cut for over a year (that time I had been growing it for a year and then cut it off and donated it to Locks of Love). Well, I finally made an appointment at a nice salon to get my hair cut. I found him on my local mommy board--several people named him as someone who is good with precision cuts and can cut straight hair that doesn't require a lot of styling to look nice (since most of us moms don't have much time to spend doing our hair). I never have time to blow dry or style my hair so it's just wash and brush and go. At work when I'm doing procedures I just put it in a ponytail to keep it out of the way. Otherwise it's just long.

So, what should I do? Here is my last haircut:

This time I kind of want to change things up and maybe get something a little more edgy, which might help keep me from looking too young and sweet. That time I had bangs cut, but now they've grown out. Should I keep bangs or not?

I am thinking of copying her fab haircut (and Una too: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....air-photos) with some sort of long inverted bob. Something like this pic below but maybe a little longer since I need to be able to put my hair back in a ponytail. (And no red streaks, obviously). Or just copy teeandcee exactly (I printed out her pics for reference)--I think that length would work much better for me. What do you think--would that edgier style clash too much with my ladylike style persona? Since it seems I only get my hair cut once or twice a year, I want to make sure it looks good!

What other ideas do you have for hair styles? I can't go really shorrt because 1)I don't think I look good in short hair 2)I think longer feminine hair looks better with my style and 3)DH really loves me in long hair and hates it when I cut it short. He equates long hair with youth and feels like short hair ages people and he loves to run his fingers through my long hair. So I can't go too short or DH will be sad.

Of course, I'll see what the hairdresser recommends when I meet him, but I want to have some possibilities in mind already. I'm really excited about the possibility of taking my style in a new direction! Thanks for your suggestions!

Yeah it will surely suit you. Go for it. Yes if thats your signature style a little longer hair will look good. But we can see Angie rocking any outfit with short hair. So its just the eyes that need to be adjusted. And yes thesse cuts will also please your DH. So maybe this would look great.

I love Teeandcees' style and length, particularly for straight hair like yours.
Pic 1 looks quite short and probably wouldn't tie back- it would also be a very dramatic change.

Yes Lyn, the pic above is shorter than I would like--I like the shape though. I was thinking more along the lines of copying teeandcee's do. Let me see if I can copy her pics to my original post.

Just be sure to talk to your stylist about the length. The cut will fall differently if it hits your shoulders and curls up or to the side as a result. To get that angled line, it has to be cut precisely to your face shape and neck length. Love the inspiration pix! It is a perfect cut for straight Asian hair!

I think this would suit you but I reckon you should take a look at some of Heidi Klum's dos as I think you'd look good with some of her cuts too.

I'm flattered! After looking at your pics on your website I think your hair would do this style wonderfully. It looks like you have that gorgeous shiny, straight, smooth hair that I have to work hard to achieve. I can't wait to see it!

I can also pull mine back into a stumpy ponytail if need be, FYI. Or I clip it back in the front just to keep it out of my eyes as it's only the front that gets in my way.

My stylist brought up the flipping issue due to the length I wanted and mine does flip up on the sides a wee bit but that's okay as I like it flipped in some areas and not in others (it wasn't flipping in the above photos).

I could really see a heavy fringe looking high fahion with your ladylike style. What does DH think of the edgy inverted bob?

You have a very ladylike persona, just like me. I really like the haircut you posted, it reminds me of my favorite sci fi character, aeon flux, as incarnated by Charlize Theron, although hers is more severe. My only word of caution is that the style needs frequent trimmings to stay that way and that you might run the risk of finding a disconnect between the cut and your current wardrobe, since the style can look a little more rock and roll/ UWP, think Una.

Bring your glasses with you as well so the stylist can properly assess length, if you decide to get bangs. You don't want windshield wipers lol.

If you want other suggestions, I love MaryK's bob. That would be my first choice for you.

I would get a more lady-like cut for you, something a bit more classy -not boring, just classy. I like Klum's haircut better for you. I also like Katie Holme's bobs (you can check them on google-images).

I'm kind of a haircut newb - like you, I'm used to just letting it be long, end of story. I think the angled bob could fit your persona, ladylike in a kind of Victoria Beckham way? Is it long enough for your DH?

LOVE the idea of a chic new bob for you!! I think it will really update your look and help you to look less young and sweet, as you mention. Now....treading onto thin ice....have you thought about updating your specs at all :)?

I really like the angled bob on you. I think it would be a fun update for your style and would look fantastic on your hair. It would add "edge" to your look but your ladylike style would keep your overall look grounded.

I love the angled bob. It will be very fussy-in-your-face for your med procedures unless you tie it back, though!

Zap, Aeon Flux was the inspiration for my most recent cut! The animated version - loved that show on MTV.

Helen is right. Depending on how your hair grows, the angled bob may get in your face. My glasses solve that issue for me as they hold the hair off my eyes. I actually keep them on for part of the cut.

As Jonesy mentioned, a new pair of glasses can also update a cut. I can totally see you in some vintage-inspired cat-eyes!

If you only get your hair cut once or twice a year I really don't think an angled bob would be good. It requires maintenance.

I have an angled bob (with some bits growing out from previous layered cut) and need trims every 6-8 weeks to maintain. Plus, anything long enough to pull back gets too tweaked out in the ends to be a good bob.
It might be better to have some long layers cut in or just be honest with the stylist about your needs (low maintenance, cuts every 4-6 months, need to pull off face a lot, desire for modern/current look) and see what he recommends. Often the stylist will make better suggestions than what we think we want.

I have to say I think the cut you got last time really suits you, but I also understand the desire for some change, so I think a long bob would be nice, too.
