Haircut and conference wear

Hi everyone! It is so good to be back on the forum! I'm in an incredibly busy season at work and have loved keeping up with everyone, but I felt like a stalker without contributing! :)

I am writing from Anchorage, AK as I attend a housing conference for the NW region. I had my heart set on a haircut before I arrived but I ended up canceling my appointment so I could have dinner with my husband instead. Today I walked to the downtown mall and had a haircut that was a little scary, since I got bangs, which were promptly poofed and rolled by the stylist with a 3" round brush. YIKES! Now that I've been able to style things my way, I love the cut!

I'm heading down to the opening reception for our conference, which is usually casual. I broke my shopping ban today to get a white cardigan from BR - it was 30% all sweaters, plus an additional 10% for cardholders, plus I had a $20 off coupon. The price was knocked down from $60 to $17.50 (plus, no sales tax in AK)! this is the only white clothing I own besides one white cami, so I'm excited to add this to my wardrobe. I believe it will be quite versatile. I'm wearing it over a teal sweater with skinnies and leather high heel booties. I've always been afraid to wear booties with skinnies because the scrunched look is new to me, but I figure I'll only see these people once a year, so I'm going for it. I think it's okay that the jeans are shorter because they scrunch a little - is that right? Please let me know your thoughts!

Ha! I don't have a camera so I'm using my laptop to take photos... I had to get creative on how I could show my shoes!

I'll try to write a little later on Anchorage fashion!

Hi LauraE. Love your bangs...nice and soft and wispy. I love your boots--what kind are they? I can't really tell your jeans are skinnies from your little back kick there. But you sure look like you're having fun!

Love the haircut. It is so versatile. I agree with Nicole it is a bit hard to see the jeans, but I believe you can wear skinny's shorter than boot cut. Here is Angie's blog on that exact subject.

I think you win the award for most fun photo yet! The bangs look great and I'm glad you're wearing skinnies and booties.

Love the new haircut -- my favorite style is with it tucked behind your ears.

The jumping photo is totally adorable. Love the boots and the ingenuity!

Great haircut, LauraE! I especially like the first picture. Your hair looks shiny and soft and healthy.

I'm glad you tried something new (booties and skinnies) and it looks like you're having fun with the look.

Lovely haircut. Enjoy Anchorage. I did when I had a chance to visit. I also got a haircut there which was a very scary cut. Yours turned out much better than mine did.

So pretty, LE! Love the new fringe (I CAN"T say the word bangs – it’s obscene). You look radiant and gorgeous :-)

*blush* Thank you everyone! I was about to cry when I left the salon - the stylist took a 3" round brush to the "fringe" (good point on the vocabulary, Angie - I even work with university students that find the obscene in everything so I'm amazed I didn't notice that sooner!). I made a beeline for the restroom in the mall and flattened them enough to go out in public to the hotel, where I trimmed them so I could see, because I don't plan on "poofing" them so dramatically.

I got to style my hair on my own today, so I tried a side-swept look: I was going nuts trying to fuss with the fringe yesterday when I was trying to have good eye contact with others!

Nicole, the booties are Born Freeda. They have a 3.5" heel so I tower at 6'2 when I wear them. :)

San, I noticed that hair styles here aren't very modern... I've seen a lot of mullets, blunt cuts and poofy rolled fringes. What was your scary cut like?

Well my scary cut was when the gal took the thinning shears to the whole crown of my head taking out gobs of hair. Whew that was scary. Some of my hairs on top of my head were as short as a quarter of an inch. When I got back home and went to a stylist to get it worked on she looked at it really funny like I had bugs on my head so I asked her what did she see. She said I'm just looking at how short some of your hair is!
The stylist who used the thinning shears on me told me that people with hair like mine need to have it lightened up on top for height! I felt like I was going bald instead of getting height.
I was nice and didn't scream or anything!

That haircut turned out so well (it is nerve wracking when you don't know the hairstylist !) and you will soon be used to the fringe. Your length is so versatile that I am jealous.

What a bargain on your sweater! A perfect Anchorage keepsake.

Oh no San! You poor thing. Glad you survived that chop.

Love the way you styled your new cut LE. You just stepped out of vogue :-)
