Hair woes

I want my hair color to be brown, but for some reason it's reddish, which I hate. I called my hair dresser & scheduled another appoinent for July 9.

Also, I need advice on eyeliner, I didn't put it on today because right after I apply it, it smudges onto my lid. The mascara does, too. I'm not sure what to do with this eyelid problem. The other lid is fine; never any smudges.

I used a new brow product that I'm not keen on.

I do like my new NYDJ turquoise top, though!

I don't think that is a bad hair color at all. It seems to have some depth instead of just a flat tone and looks really nice with the turquoise top. I'm not much help with makeup I'm afraid.

Thanks. I don't mind different tones of brown, but I don't want any red. My natural color doesn't have any red unless you squint in the really bright sunlight to see it. It doesn't show up in photos or whatever. How hard is it to get a neutral brown color?

Try pencil eyeliner.. Or anything other than liquid.. It won't smudge..
You may keep eye closed till it dries and additionally use smudge proof ones?

I find a shadow primer solved that problem for me - and I use MAC Paintpots in a number of different colours for this purpose. Stops the eyeliner and mascara from smudging on the lid.

My hair is like yours - it just wants to pull red no matter what colour you use on it. My stylist can counteract it by using a level 7 with an ash base - but there is never any guarantee that it will be a permanent solution. Sun plays a big part too , as I'm sure you know. Why not just go with it ?

Nishaa: I did use a pencil eyeliner. I don't know what to do with my eyelid hooded like this.

Lisap: Please provide links to the MAC Paintpots. If I liked this hair color, I'd go with it. It just doesn't look or feel like me. She used level 7NN (double neutral) on me 2 weeks ago. I think she needs to use 7A (ash). Maybe then if it still skews red, it won't be as much. It's funny because my sister and her daughter have been coloring their brown hair, and their hair also looks reddish. It's not their natural color, either.

BC -- Yes. Your blouse color is fabulous on you. It enhances your very pretty eyes. Regarding your hair color -- To be honest, I do not see a whole lot of red (especially in the first pic, which seems to have better lighting). A touch of red? Perhaps. A lot of natural brunettes (including myself) get a touch of red in the hair, especially in the summer. My hair gets highlights in red and strawberry blonde shades from sun exposure. Hair products with UV protectants can help with this issue. But -- If you are still not pleased with your color, you are right to bring it up with your stylist. (I personally think you look lovely and that your present hair color is not the least bit unflattering.) On the subject of eyeliner, I have this same problem. I have tried a waterproof liner with some success, but there is still some smudging. Do you use a moisturizer on the eye area? Sometimes this can lead to smudging. If I spent time in the sun, I would understand the red. The deal is that I stay indoors most of the time. This just doesn't look like my regular hair color. The more the roots show, the more obvious it is. My roots are ash brown with some white hairs thrown in for good measure.

i use waterproof gel liners by Marc Jacobs, tons of great colors. I also use a primer for my lids before applying shadow or lid liner (though I rarely use liner on my upper lids, just on the inside of my upper, in the water line; Angie did a great tutorial on applying this way within the last couple months.) I also use waterproof mascara, which for my aging lids is critical, though mine smudges below my eyes, not on the lids (the mascara). re hair color, mine doesn't go red, but lighter. Still not willing to go grey, though I love it on others.

The top is a great color for you. I love the first picture - if looks could kill! It does look like you need more brow in the first picture. I use a Clinique product that I don't think does much, so I wouldn't recommend it, and don't know anything else.

Thanks, everyone. We have city water that I don't believe is hard. I had hard water when I lived in a different state, so I'm all too familiar with it. I didn't mean to look mad in pic #1. That seems to be what happens when I don't smile, lol. Gotta work on that. I also need a darker brow color, I think. I already use waterproof mascara. I do moisturize my eye area, but I don't think that's the problem. Like I said, the problem is only with one eye. That said, I definitely need to do something different.

I love, and would love to have that hair color. I actually think it looks great on you but you need to be comfortable with it and I realize you're not.

Try shampoo & conditioner for blond hair that has the purple toner in it. I find that it reduces that reddish/brassy look. Redken Blonde Idol, for example. <http://www.ulta.com/ulta/brows.....od10141226>
