Grey loafer type shoes

I was wondering what you think of the shoes in this picture:

These are not the type of shoes I'm generally drawn to, but I quite like the look here. Maybe because of the colour of the shoes (+ outfit combination), and the fact that these loafers have a small heel.

It's a classic look, and they seem comfortable too (probably very expensive as well, Tod's or something?-) But I'd be afraid it could look matronly very quickly if not paired with the right clothes. E.g. they will probably only work with wide-legged trousers?
So probably not the most versatile shoes?

I like those, Inge. I agree that the look could go terribly wrong with the wrong clothes. But that's kind of the case with everything, isn't it? I could see those also looking good with skinnies. I could see you in those.

I thought those shoes were really striking as well; I think it was the tan stacked heel that drew me in.

Nice with the outfit. Wide legs or bootcuts would be a must IMO. No skinnies. Does that make sense?

Angie, I've been pondering your post. I'm not sure it does make sense to me. The skinnies look would certainly be more avant than what is usually done on the site, but somehow I think it could work. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/c.....robe_remix

Can you explain your position a little more?

I'll be honest, they're a little frumpy for my taste. That said, I don't think they're *bad* shoes (and you could certainly do way, way worse). The color is definitely fantastic.

I love the shoes with the outfit, but for me it is one of those things I'll admire on others but not try myself. The color is gorgeous though.

Thank you for the input ladies!

I think you're all right;-)
It was definitely the tan stacked heel that stood out to me (that and the beautiful grey colour).
I agree with Angie, I would personally only wear them with wide-legged trousers and maybe bootcuts.
But to Eve's point, it would definitely be a thin line between looking classic and sophisticated or just plain frumpy.

Alecia: if you want to wear them with skinnies, I think you'd have to find just the perfect pair (in fact, the shoes in the picture look more like oxfords than loafers), in a terrific colour, and I would only pair them with a very funky or edgy top.
To me loafers are a 'classic' look, oxfords 'new style' more modern. Does that make sense?

In the end, I don't think they're really me (sometimes I get a bit delusional and imagine myself as a sophisticated Parisienne with a very classic wardrobe;-)

I like the way these look with the wide leg pants! I actually own two pairs of Tods shoes and I always feel frumpy when I wear them. They're so classic and yet sort of plain too. I have a dark brown patent pair that I have been wearing with my gap micro check pants and they look O.K. but not spectacular. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought them - I guess it was just DINK syndrome.

Ok, now I have to ask: what is DINK syndrome Shana?-)
