Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Glasses again

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to pick out new glasses this weekend. I had my eye appt, and my eyes have changed a fair bit for the better, so I'd like to get that new prescription as soon as possible.

Here is a link to about a dozen glasses that the girl at the optometrists' helped me pick out. She was kind enough to take pics of me as well. The general consensus from the ladies at work was to avoid the ones that were rounded on the bottom - they liked the more rectangular frames.

What does everyone think? I've kind of decided that a more neutral frame is probably a safer choice since I'll only have one pair, I wear them every day & they need to last for a couple of years.

Thanks!!

Christine

I'm no expert but I love the Dior glasses.

Christine, you have such pretty choices! Which are your favorites?

Personally, the frames I like best on you are #3 and #5. #3 and 6 definitely make a statement, though they are the most angular pairs you posted so you'd want to make sure you like that look enough to wear it every day. The shape of #1 is pretty, but I like the lighter-colored frames better against your face.

#10 is the kind of frame that looks best on me (an angular oval.) I really like rectangular frames on you, though.

Thanks for the comments.

Kari - I'm having a tough time deciding. I really like #5 (the Dior pair). The shape of #3 is great, but I'm concerned about the color - it's a cool slate blue/grey and I have a warm coloring & wear mostly warm colors, so that worries me a little. I also like #6, #9 & #11. Some of the pairs are too small, and I like the rectangle shape - some are too round.

I gotta tell you, though, this being able to take digital pictures & analysing them is the BEST!! I've always had to depend on my dh's opinion of glasses (or at least, for the last 15 years) and while I trust his judgement (and after all, he has to look at me in glasses more than I have to look at myself), it's rather liberating to be able to make more of the decision myself.

I think the Dior ones look great on you -- Lovely!

I actually prefer photo # 6 - the funkier ones. I really like them for you. The Dior's are nice, but seem a tad bit safe?
The #6 are funky, but I don't think they'd look odd with your wardrobe at all.

I like #1, 4, 5, and 9. I'm not sure you've found the very best one yet though.

Thanks for the effort and the slide show. Very well executed!

My dear Christine, you are not going to love my feedback (sad face). But just as I informed Tara today, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I wasn’t offering my honest professional opinion. The ONLY pair which is a good possibility amongst the lot is #6. The rest of the frames are still too dark and heavy. Your heavy eyebrows require a light and playful pair of frames. #6 is still neutral in my book and they look fabulous. They will not date. Trust me. I hope that makes sense.

Angie, the reason I posted is because I wanted your feedback! It doesn't make me sad if you disagree with me, and actually, #6 was on my list anyway.

I do have a question though. I'm not sure about the burgundy color of #6. Its a color that I pretty much never wear at all, and I'm not sure how it works with the rest of my wardrobe. #1 is the exact same pair as #6, but brown instead of burgundy. Are they close at all, or still too dark?

I am concerned about the opening for the lenses being too small. I've always felt that my eyes were big, and they need room in my glasses. That's why many of these didn't cut it for me.

Great! That’s EXACTLY why burgundy will work. It’s a neutral that is just THERE, present in all your ensembles adding interest and polish to your look whether you wear a killer dress or a casual pair of jeans. Does that make sense?

You do have gloriously big eyes and some of the frames do look too narrow, but #6 looks perfect. Are they comfortable?

That makes sense. I honestly don't remember if they are comfortable or not. I don't remember any of the glasses I tried on being UNcomfortable.

So brown is out? The burgundy is really out of my comfort zone. I'll have to think about it. I trust you, I do, I'm just not sure if I'm ready for such a big change, kwim?

I looked after I read Angie's comments, and I agree on #6.

What a great idea taking pics and posting them for others to help out. My vision is soooo bad, and I hate feeling like I'm at the mercy of a sales person for my look for the next year or so.

my favorite was also #6. they seemed to be the best suited for your face and very stylish, i might add!

your heavier brows do seem to limit the ability to wear darker frames - have you considered thinning them out at all? it could really open up your face!
