A little less than a week ago I posted on the forum about how, as a SAH/WAH mum I had of late been less than motivated to make an effort with dressing and feeling like bothering to make an effort. Many of you immediately came to my rescue with hugs, pats on the back and encouragement, sympathy, empathy and some very good advice, for which I'm very grateful.

Angie suggested a little project and to take photos to share on here, which I did.

At the beginning of the week I wasn't well and didn't want to think too hard about what to put on so I chose something I had worn before and knew I was happy in, which was also colourful. Many of you swear by FFBO's and that was lesson number 1 for me. It really does work, so if you are at home and need to not have to think too hard try it, it does work. And colour... if you're feeling grotty, boy does colour lift you up. Wear some make up too. I have always worn make up, but on the odd day when I haven't bothered, let me tell you, each time I catch myself in the mirror I see a pale, less HD version of myself (not good for self esteem). I have pale sparse eyebrows, a pale complexion and very fine eyelashes, so brow pencil, mascara and some blusher make me look alive and I'm not embarrassed to open the door to the postman either! So even if I'm not setting foot out of the door from now on I will always do the bare minimum of make up at least.

I did spend the rest of the week planning what I was going to wear the night before and I took into account what appointments if any, that I had the next day. Wednesday's outfit was maybe the only one which I ended up putting a mix of pieces together which I had never tried before at all and in a kind of 'happy accident' way, I ended up with an outfit that worked. So, lessons 2 and 3 are plan ahead to some degree if you can and also to experiment a little, unexpected pairings can bring pleasant surprises.

Skirts featured in two of my outfits and they were both made of jersey fabric. I know many of you SAH/WAH ladies reach for jeans, but I found the jersey skirts soooo comfy (lesson 4). You must try one!

Lets talk footwear now. I showed you my dreadful old house slippers on Monday, complete with hole and for sometime I had considered upgrading. I have noticed my left foot is starting to over pronate and I'm pretty certain that un-supportive house slippers are not helping. So a little search on the internet and I found some below half price ballet-type shoes with rubber soles and criss-cross straps to hold them on... result! They came today and are perfect and I now feel respectable and have better support, so don't neglect your feet even at home (lesson 5 :)) see pic #6

I wore a little jewellery most days with my outfits and I also wore some nice belts, I found that both are great ways to elevate an outfit (lesson 6). I also made a point of putting on a top or sweater with some interest. I realise that more sweaters would be very welcome in my wardrobe, particularly statement sweaters as mentioned in Fridays blog post by Angie. I intend to make some jersey skirts too because they are just so comfy.

Finally, I wear glasses for my work and they need renewing soon, so I am considering some in a brighter colour to further elevate my at home look and I could have them hanging round my neck when doing client fittings ready to pop on when needed.

This has been a really good project for me and it helped me to find out more about my needs and comfort levels and also that I often have more of a reason than I thought to get dressed for. I still want to build some more opportunities in my life to go out and get dressed for but for now I consider it a small success.

If you read this far well done and thanks for listening!
