Frye vs. Antelope: you be the judge! (6 photos)

These Antelope boots arrived, and now the neutral boot-off is on. And if neither of these prevails, I am giving up for a while. The Antelopes are a more taupe/grey and lower shaft, but have about the same gappage on my crazy-skinny legs. I know the Fryes got voted down, but I haven't mailed them back yet (waiting to make one giant UPS run).

Have at it! Yay on either one? Or nay on both? Skirt-worthy?

Una, did you see all of the yoox.com boots I posted on your last thread about looking for a nude boot? I think I like the shape of the Antelope better, but the color certainly doesn't read as a "nude" for you.

Are you thinking you'd wear these strictly for weekend or casual looks?

Jonesy, these would be for work under trousers, or for casual with skirts and jeans.

I don't think I can order from yoox with the shipping costs, which is a shame since they have more fab stuff than I can stand. I'm not necessarily looking for a nude, just a lighter "summer" boot color.

(Is greyish-taupe anyone's nude? I hope not!)

If we're assuming nude is not the deciding factor, would you like these? And thank you for your honesty!

I much prefer the Antelope boot. I love the shape, the different tones within the taupe/grey colour and the height of the shaft. There's something about the orange tone of the Fryes that doesn't work to my eye - it's like they tried to be orange but didn't quite make it all the way, you know? I also think the Antelopes look very nice peeking out from underneath your trousers.

I think they look fab, if they were hugging your ankle they would look weird. I'd certainly wear them, can see them now with my skinnies!

I much prefer the antelopes. I prefer the color, the shape, everything really. I think they would be more versatile too.

How big are your ankles, Una?

Just measured them at a whopping 9 inches, and that's around the bone. 8 inches above the ankle. Ridiculous, I know.

Hm, mine are the same. I guess I just have a massive calf in comparison... but the point of my story is that if you decide to take a break, I will keep my eye out and snap a pic on my ankles if I see anything likely.

I'm thinking you already rejected the Report booties, right?

Rae, I don't want suede so the Report boots are out. I am trying the DV boots in orange but those haven't arrived yet.

Perhaps I should be looking for a lace-up? I feel like I've seen EVERY boot that is out there right now!

Una, I was curious and just measured my ankles. 9" around the bone, 8 1/2" just above at the thinnest part. I'm pretty slight-boned, but I just thought you might like to know that your ankles are not freakishly tiny!

Wow, they have the grey in my size for $125! The only issue is that I was looking for ankle boots to wear under work pants, but these might work because they are fitted. Do you wear your Julias under jeans and pants? I seem to recall seeing a couple of WIWs like that...

You know what? I have mostly taller boots! I have also found it frustrating to find something in a shortie boot unless it zips up close to the leg (i.e., my black Fuevogs - they fit around my ankle perfectly!)). I have pair of short Miz Mooz cowboyish boots that are a mustard-y color, and I only wear them with bootcut jeans. I feel like I look like I'm standing in a pan if I try them with anything like a skirt or shorts.

I would love to find something neutral like you're looking for to wear with skirts and bare legs. I gave up last year and defaulted to my tan cowboy boots. If you don't go for the Antelopes and I see something promising, I'll keep you posted!

My Julias do fit under pants, and mine go all the way up to the knee. My guess is they'll probably work under dress pants cuffed or uncuffed.

ETA: since you hava a wider foot, you may want to size up. I sized down, but my foot is narrow, and Mo said her regular size was a little tight.

I'm not crazy about either option. Both seem too gappy to me. I prefer the color of the Antelopes even though they are less "nude." The Fryes seem too warm and orangey to me.

My ankles are actually the same size as yours but my calves are way bigger. I prefer mid-calf boots (higher than both of these options) but this may not work for you given that your calves are so slim. On me, the higher opening means a smaller gap at the top. I don't like most ankle height boots on me because of the gapping. I adore lace-up boots too.

I prefer the Anetlopes as well. I rather like the color on you - even though it's not an exact match to your skin tone, they still can function as a quasi-"nude" shoe that still extends your leg line. (I use my yellow shoes in the same way, and they certainly don't match my skin tone exactly, either!)

I just measured my ankles--they are the same size (7 and 3/4" at the skinniest part, 9" around the bony part). Must be a common size. I have lots of ankle boots and booties too (my faves). I *have* had to kiss plenty of frogs though to find all of these princely pairs!

Anyhoo, I am with Rae in that I don't think either of these are fab, make-your-heart-go-pitter-patter boots, and that's what you deserve, darn it!

I like the idea of lace-ups. What sites can you buy from (cheap shipping-wise)? I could keep my eyes peeled for you.

Una, your legs are strong and healthy looking - just had to pipe in to say that.

I'm not crazy about either one as a boot to wear with skirts/bare legs, if that's what your'e after.

I like the fit of the Antelope better but I really don't like that color.
I find it soul sucking.

ooh, grommet Julia's!! My vote too! I can vouch, as a fellow skinny legger, that the knee high Julia's lace up tight enough on my leg. I did find mine tight in the forefoot for the size, but that might be the reason why they were an open box wearhouse deal to start with?

Definitely the Antelopes for me. I like the color better and the style. They seem like they'd be more versatile if that's a consideration. I think they look better with your skin tone also.
