Frye sale at Nordstrom Rack: How should these fit?

If you're a fan of Frye boots, Rack has them deeply discounted for the next few days.

In my never-ending quest to shoe my fussy feet, I may try a pair of booties. Question: these don't seem like they're supposed to fit snugly at the ankle: https://www.nordstromrack.com/.....r=CHARCOAL

Since there's no chance that they will (fit snugly at the ankle, I mean) I'm asking if that's how they're supposed to fit?

I hope you got your size because they are going really fast. You can always return if they don't work out.

I don't think they are supposed to fit snugly at the ankle. Like my Ugg moto boots, they have some room at the ankle (which helps make them really comfortable -- nothing digging into the front of your ankle or shin when you walk). I just wear thicker or scrunchy socks with this kind of style to sort of fill the gap.

When I clicked your link I got taken to some man clothes...

But from what I can see of the pic you attached to the post, it looks like that one might be a bit loose at the opening.

It's rare that I find an ankle boot that fits snugly at my ankles unless there are laces involved. Even with laces involved, I sometimes feel they aren't snug enough. I don't know if that's helpful information or not , but it's my experience.

I do not have Frye boots, so I am not familiar with the brand's fit -- but this pair looks similar to some moto boots that I have. Like Janet's pair, mine have some room in the ankle but not full "flower pot" effect. In other words... they are snug enough and not gaping. If I want a slightly closer fit, I wear socks in the same color to close the small gap.

I saw that they were flying out out of the store, so I just ordered a couple pair to try on. Honestly, it is so hard for me to find shoes that don't bring me to tears, it will be a miracle if I end up keeping one pair. But if there's a contender, I'll post pics to get the YLF opinion...

You were wise to order before your size was gone. The charcoal color looks brown on my monitor. Is it actually grey?

I've had difficult luck with Frye in the past. Their footwear seems to run large, and a lot of the colors they think of as grey look more brown to me.

I have the Veronica shorties, and the construction inside of these looks similar, they get really soft and slouchy. I think these might go slouchy on you also at the ankle and not stay as firm as when purchased.

I will report back on the charcoal color when my booties arrive. I don't hold out tremendous hope since my shoe-return rate is abysmally high due to multiple foot problems, but let's hope I can get at least one pair of these to behave with foam inserts, orthotics, stick-on gel pads, or some other shoe fix.
