frustrations with shoes on amazon

It just frustrates me when I find there is as much as a $60.00 difference in price in my size and or the color I want when shoe shopping on Amazon. Other retailers I buy shoes from on line prices are the same for all sizes and colors, unless they are on sale and only have a couple of sizes left. Then the size is not mine or they are out of a color I want. Getting so I don't even look for anything on sale. I just determine how much I will wear them, or how much I like them, and decide a top price I will go. This does not apply to my work out sneakers, trail hikers, special footwear for specific things, etc.

Shopping for shoes on Amazon is the worst, but they keep sucking me back in with free prime shipping and returns. I mostly hate that you can't really search by price because they put them in order of the lowest possible price, but that's not the price in your size or color, ever. I think it's because they have so many different sellers and they lump them all together in one listing. Sometimes they'll even have the same color listed a few different times in the same listing. It's a mess....buuuuut freeeee shiiiiiiping sings to me.

I've noticed that too. My size never seems to be on sale, it's always another size. I have bought shoes from Amazon, though. My preferences are local independent stores, Zappos and Nordstrom. I know Zappos is owned by Amazon, but I love them because they deliver my order the next day. I'm always amazed.

JAileen, I'm with you in supporting vendors other than Amazon.

Regarding things they stock and ship themselves (books, music, dvds) - no problems. But when it comes to affiliated vendors - forget it. Three times my husband has ordered things that have never shown up, and several hoops had to be jumped through to cancel.

I was craving a specialty kitchen thermometer for my Hanukkah gift, and my sweet husband was going to find it on Amazon, but I asked him to order it directly from the manufacturer

I have the same issues with shoes from Amazon. It is indeed very frustrating.

And Binkle, I too have learned to only buy when it is shipped by Amazon direct.

I hate ordering shoes from Amazon. Honestly, I kind of hate ordering anything from Amazon. But I'm weird, and I like weird things.

And yes, when I do look at something on Amazon, the lowest price is always the size 5.5 shoe or the color I do NOT want, or the shirt size that doesn't fit me and it's just frustrating as all get out.

I like yoox and shoe metro and Etsy anf even tjmaxx much better than Amazon these days.

a couple of comment re amazon....
1st the obvious....often the same style is offer for sale by multiple vendor, so that can and does often explain the pricing difference...if vendor X is sold out of a size, then vendor Y know that they can charge a different (often higher) price...
2nd variable pricing, is a HUGE part of Amazons business model...different days, different customers, different color or sizes will get different prices....think of amazon they same way you do airline's...

I have lamented this more than once when on the losing side (which is most of the time). But I have also scored Ecco and Naot sandals for less than $40 each. It's like you have to accidentally stumble across something you didn't have your heart set on, and then your size might be the winning price. And Amazon knows if you eye it too much or put it in your cart and leave it for later, because it ratchets up the price accordingly. I've learned to jump when it's a good price, because it won't last. I also hate the search on there.

Ha! I know what you mean. My size and preferred color are never the lowest price option!

I do occasionally find success with shoes on Amazon though. I've had an occasional score when I knew exactly what I was looking for, and found it cheaper on Amazon than on other sites.

My strategy has been to put them on my cart and to keep checking back. The prices will vary tremendously over a month. Eventually I usually hit a day when suddenly my size is the one that is oddly inexpensive!

I'm not usually the lowest price either. I think about it the way I think about Ebay, I just decide if the item I want is at a price that I am willing to pay.
