Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Found boots that fit my calves -- keep or return?

Sorry for cropping my body out... I've been feeling really insecure about my weight.

I found these boots at Nordstrom Rack and they actually fit my calves! Do they work?

They fit with skinnies too:

They fit because they are adjustable, but I wonder if this looks weird?

Marianna, I really like them. They are a good slouchy boot style that Angie keeps advocating. They look good on, and they are versatile if they are wearable with dresses and jeans. I say keep.

My only hesitation is that in the first picture, they look slightly non-uniformly slouchy - they look kind of tight around your ankles and then they balloon out right above that. But I think that is just an odd photo, because in all the other photos they just look slouchy all over. What do you think?

Hmmm... well they don't feel tight around my ankles. Maybe my calves are just bigger in proportion to my ankles? Not really sure. I see what you mean though!

Marianna, calf fit on boots is an issue that is near and dear to my heart since I have been struggling with it myself. I am sorry to sound dense - these are slouch boots, right? I quite like them with the jeans and in the side shot but when I see them on your bare legs from the front, I think the part that juts out on the sides look a little weird - like it's adding width to your legs. I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker since it can be so difficult to find boots that fit in the first place. I see what Medusa is saying too - I think I would have liked them better if they were a couple of inches longer. But then again, I am far from being an expert on slouch boots so take my comments with a grain of salt.

These aren’t slouch boots. But I wonder if you can make them more slouchy by pushing them down?

Just tried it... they do look sort of better pushed down...

Keep! I really like how they look!

Love hem!
A couple thoughts...
I am a large calved girl myself, and not to hijack your thread, but I did a blog post a while back on boots available for larger calves. Here's the link in case you are looking for other options.

Also, I don't think it looks offensive to have that fold of leather, but I wonder if you could bring them to a leatherwork shop and have them trim out the excess if it really bothers you. though I bet the leather will soften with wear and lay flatter eventually.

Marianna, As an aside, this post has some links for boots for wide calves.

Marianna, what did you decide about the boots?

Posted 1 month ago

I still don't know. I just ordered another pair on Zappos that Angie said were killer. These: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7576432/c/20650.html

I just ordered them tonight so I should have them by Thursday or Friday and then I'll decide. I still like the original boots I bought and they fit really well, so we'll see! I can't keep both pairs so I'll decide which are more comfy and go with those. Thanks for asking. :)

*bump*

How did these boots turn out for you, Marianna? Other large-calved girls (well, at least THIS large-calved girl) wants to read about how your search progresses : )

So funny that you bumped this, Mac. I actually realized that with those adjustable snaps I am able to turn them into slouch boots! I actually wore them yesterday... here's a picture:

So I put them on the last buckle and scrunched them down. I had someone at work tell me that I had "spunky" boots that reminded him of the 80s. Ha.

The Viggoti ones that I ordered from Zappos I ended up returning. They were defective... they buckles came all scratched and the length of the shoe was a bit short (and I wear the biggest size they make). They fit my calves perfectly though and the leather is nice. I'd recommend them!

I also bought a pair of cheap boots at Torrid that are a little too big on the calves, but they're comfy so I kept them. I've already worn them and they were comfortable.

Also found a pair of boots at Nordstrom that would not zip on my calves but they sent them to a cobbler and stretched them (for free!) and they fit now! Yay for cobblers. I haven't worn them yet but they were really expensive and they're gorgeous so I need to figure out how to wear them.
