For kkards (and others!): Emerson Fry has lured me again

Every time she prepares to launch a new season, local designer (out of Portsmouth NH) Emerson Fry blows me away. Her clothing is beautiful, especially if you like clean lines, mod-inspired, big-over-lean, and neutral colorways. I've ordered a few times and for various reasons have not kept anything, but I will say I have never been disappointed with quality.

I'm very tempted by so much!!! I've included some screen shots from my early access email. This is what I love the most from the new collection: the blue print tee (probably silk), the big turtleneck and long skinny pants, the sculpted chambray top, the tailored coat (definitely more substantial than the Zara one), and (especially) the metaliic sheen top that is shown folded in the picture ... also I love both the OTK boots and the booties, too. Her price points are quite high for me, so I'm sure if I do try, it will be one or two things only. (Nice note: all her clothing is made in the US; most in NYC, I believe.)

I love the beautiful clean lines. And I love the idea of beautifully made clothing, made in the US. It all looks so rectangle-friendly though -- do you have any sense that their fits would work at all for someone more hourglassy? I love these kinds of looks, but always feel like the slim-hipped and less curvy pull them off way more successfully than I do.

Janet, I have not tried her pants but they look sooo super skinny in the photos that I suspect they are mostly rectangle friendly. Just my impression and I could be wrong, however.

For tops, I think her clothing is much more forgiving. I have ordered my size in a shift dress and an overcoat and both were actually quite roomy on me. The dress was so roomy I had to send it back; the coat I almost kept but returned out of $$ guilt (silly, because in retrospect it was a really good buy).

She also sells a lot in the upper size ranges so her customers are not all tiny rectangle girls. Might be worth a call to her very helpful customer service (based on my experience) if there is something of interest.

Uh, Suz ... yeah. I suddenly have no interest in buying anything at Zara or JCrew. Hoarding my dollars.

JayS -- I miss her modeling, too. Thanks for the link to her board. It was so fun to see some of the old styles there, and it reminded me of the one purchase that I did keep: a gold high-waisted skirt that I loved, but which did not love me. It was from emersonmade, and it was in my pre-YLF days, before I understood that as a rectangle with no waist, a high-waisted skirt was a really, really bad idea. Back then, I just bought what I loved. No matter if it worked or not.

I want those railroad pants so bad (from the Pinterest board), but I bet they are not hip and thigh friendly. Sigh.

Love the fall stuff!!

The summer designs were just as nice - minimal, clean lines all the way. I bought one of her summer caftans earlier this summer, but I'm still trying to figure out how to wear it. It's definitely designed for someone 5'9", and I'm only 5'2", but I couldn't get past the gorgeous fabric.

She has very nice sales, too.

FAB! i got the early access email, but i've been so busy i havent had a chance to look....and my august budget thanks me. just looking at what you posted i can tell i'm going to end up ordering at least a few things this season!

Thanks for sharing,viva. Beautiful pieces, so elegant and streamlined. I love her aesthetic and investing in something cherished of this caliber can be fun and sensible. That coat is amazing. Why am I so drawn to the chambray shirt and the way it hangs in a side view? Not my usual direction, yet compelling. Off to look at more.

I really love Emerson Fry, too. No surprise since we have the same taste in a lot of stuff, Viva! I wish I didn't know the fall collection was out because now I have to look. Right now. Does she have an actual storefront in Portsmouth?

I don't have perfect luck with her sizing because of height issues.

I have 2 pairs of the Mick jeans, one black and one white and I loooove them. BTW they are not form fitting. Yet not baggy either.

Also, for reasons that are hard to explain, the white v neck hemp t shirt is the best thing ever. It's partly drapiness but that's not the whole picture.

Oh, Ummlila, it's so great to hear an actual review of the Mick pants! I would love to see a picture of you in them. I've wondered what they are like IRL.

She does not have a Portsmouth storefront, although I keep wishing.

The fall line is available starting Monday. Wishing I had a big fat bankroll.

I love EF, and think it is the neutral colors and classic lines that make me want to invest every time. It does seem that the sizing for pants and tops is completely different; while the tops tend to run large the pants tend to have a very slim cut. I am usually a size 4, and while that worked for the Zep Pants, I had to size up to a 6 for the pencil pants. But the free returns make it tempting to keep trying

V- I can totally see you in all of these and know why you love the looks of them. I think the 1st top is my first choice because it's so unique. Of course if you find THE pants that fit there you go.

I love this line too (of course I do!), but have never seen any of it IRL. I've followed her blog on and off for a couple of years and was seriously obsessed with a few pieces from the S/S line. Saw the fall pieces the other day and just loved them. Sigh.

The price point is a bit high for me, too, but I love the free shipping and returns, the gorgeous packaging, the nice wooden hangers... Not to mention the clothes! I agree with the commenter who mentioned generous sizing- the dress I ordered seemed to run a little large to me. I've got my eye on the mick pant this fall.
