Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

fit on pencil skirt?

I have never had a true pencil skirt. I found this at H &M in Portland, Maine on my birthday and found this on clearance. 2 questions:
Does it fit?, it is a bit tight but has stretch. Is the faded denim ok?
I do not know how a pencil skirt is supposed to fit.:

Cute skirt. I like the faded color on you and for summer. I would like to see it without the leggings. It seems possibly the skirt being snug at the knees would call for no leggings.
Happy Birthday to You!!!
You look marvelous. It must be fun to be 51 and look no where near 50. Keep up the good eating or whatever you're doing to stay so youthful.

Thanks San, I am not crazy about my white knees showing, do leggings look bad?

Oh no the leggings don't look bad. I see now the second picture which I didn't see before and it looks wonderful. In the first pic the way your were standing gave me the impression of a different shape to the skirt. I love it!

happy belated birthday Jean! I cannot BELIEVE you are 51. Seriously. Cannot believe it. I think you're lying. You look a good 20 years younger.

I think the skirt fits great and I like the wash, but I'm going to stick to my guns and say show off your lily white knees. I think it would look great on its own, and I think you should look into incorporating more pencil skirts in your wardrobe because they really seem to flatter you.

I am honestly not in love with this ensemble as though. I think it just divides you up into too many sections. I think the key to making the skirt and leggings look work for me is to keep everything fairly low contrast.

Happy Birthday, Jean!
I think this skirt fits you great. Normally, I don't like lighter wash denim, but I think this works for you. Maybe it's your coloring, or the fact that you wear such rich colors, but I think that I like the lighter wash better than a darker one for you. This will be great paired with tights and boots in the fall/winter. You should try it bare legged, though- and just see, like Maya suggested.

Happy Birthday, Jean! I hope it was as special as you are! Maine is so beautiful. What a great place to spend your birthday!

I love how you put together different layers and textures. I think that must be the artist in you. You have a wonderful style. The fit and color look good to me. I hope you show us more pencil skirt looks!

I am still not sure about this one, I may try a different kind. Looking at the pictures I agree with you Maya, I look chopped up a bit. The skirt does not feel that comfortable, a bit too high in the waist. I think it is because I am slightly short waisted that it feels like that.

Happy Birthday, Jean!
The skirt looks fabulous on you, but I think you should use it without leggings! You have lovely legs and pencil skirts look great on you!

Happy Belated Birthday, Jean! I imagine a birthday this time of year is always fun; everyone is in such good moods and ready to celebrate. :)

I like the fit of the skirt very much, and I can imagine you would find some great combos for the faded wash. I can see you wearing with a lot of your signature artistic flair!
