Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

First shot at leggings - need your opinions :-)

So I bought a pair of cheapo leggings to try with a few Indian tunic tops I have. I usually wear these with cropped jeans/ capris. Not sure how the leggings look over my thunder thighs. Here's a picture with one:

As always, I greatly appreciate all the feedback from you lovely ladies :-)

Beautiful tunic! I want one now!

I do think you would be better off without those side vents. They seem to distort on a curvy lower half.

You're definitely on the right track and everything else about the look is great so I think you should keep experimenting.

Love that tunic! I think the look isn't quite perfect yet, but has lots of potential. Definitely keep trying, as Maya said. Maybe what throws it off for me is the 2 different blacks? Also, how thick is the tunic material? Others will probably feel differently about this, but for me personally, since leggings tend to be thinner material, I feel better wearing them with thicker, sturdier material tunics/dresses. For me, thin tunic top plus thin leggings doesn't feel comfortable or balanced. (YMMV) Maybe that is what throwing it off for me?
I'm curious to see your experiments, because I adore Indian tunic tops! None of my mine fit over my bust anymore, but I've been thinking about getting some new ones. They are so great for summer!

That is such a great tunic, niva, and the shape of it is great on you. I also think the leggings are the perfect length to wear with it. Maya and Asha pinpointed the issues I have with the look- the side slits and the colour. You said you have a few of these tunics? I have a hunch that seeing a brighter one with the leggings would solve both these problems. While black is slimming, it's also the colour that shows off a person's silhouette more than any other. You might find that a brighter one appears to visually "skim" your sides more, and the shape created by the side slits wouldn't look as obvious, and of course the eye would be drawn up toward the coloured piece and your face. So, I'd say try it with another top, and let us see that.

(Oh, and you don't have "thunder thighs"- silly!)

Great comments from the ladies above. In general the leggings look is super on you, so definitely go forward with it!

The leggings look wonderful and your legs are fantastic! Those ankles ... so elegant and slim. Do keep on with the legging look.

Maya, Asha - Thanks! My mom keeps sending these to me from India all the time. Give me your addresses and I'll send them your way the next time she does again!

Ele - I think you're right. I do have a few others and picked the dark one just so it wouldn't show the wrinkles :-)

Antje, Robyn - Thanks :-D I will!

The tunic is all cotton and is think enough to have some structure. But I agree with you about the slits. They start right at the hips and do not look too flattering in the picture. Maybe I could hem the slits to open a little lower or just close them off completely.

Well done, Niva! I’m proud of you for trying something new.

I echo the ladies about the details of the outfit. BUT! You look fab in leggings and should definitely pursue the look. I like that you put a WOVEN top with your leggings. We don’t see that much around here :0)

I think this is a pretty cool look! I have several of these tunics as well and I always like to find a way to blend east & west to get a different look out of them. I have always worn mine with some slim bootcuts & heels. I wonder if they would work with clamdiggers?

I see how the side slits are problematic - all of mine have them too. Some tunics would look odd when the side slit is closed but I think it would work on this one since it has the details at the hem. It's nicely fitted on the top too (many of mine are way too loose on the top since I have to size up to accommodate the bust!).

shana, I know what you mean! It's such a hit or miss with the off-the-rack tunics from India. I always end up having to take them in a little, which kind of messes with the slits. No fair. I love having stuff tailored when I go to visit my parents.
