Hi all,
I am mostly a lurker, but I am here reading when I can most days. Unfortunately, I rarely have time to participate much. My life is crazy busy.
Anyhoo - I have been looking for answers for months...and many of the threads hint at this, but I wanted to ask:
How many of you are truly happy with ALL of your closet? If you are, how did you get there?
I am just wondering if it is something that will always elude me. I have some favorites, but I cant always wear those (and have a tendancy to "save" them - so silly). Also I have 4 distinct seasons where I live, so any particular fave might not be weather appropriate at any given time.
I feel like I have a few outfits I like, but a lot of times end up wearing something that is just ok. Sigh.
Some backstory, I have become increasingly unhappy with my own closet over the past couple of years (which is what led me here!!). My clothes just didnt make me happy, and I definitely felt like I had nothing to wear, although my closet was STUFFED. I have been trying to hone things, pare down and find my style so that I at least like more of my available options.
I am in a strange-ish situation because I have a full time professional job, but I work from home most days. I do travel and go to meetings several times a year, so I do need the business formal/casual capsule. It is usually a set of clothes unto itself --- doesnt cross over into my regular wardrobe much.
My normal days are extremely casual. I live in a very casual town and would feel highly out of place in a super polished outfit on a normal day. Add to that the fact that I am very RATE, sporty, maybe slightly edgy. I do NOT bat for team dressy, polished, elegant, etc etc. AT ALL. I feel very uncomfortable in such outfits (unless the situation demands it, like an important work conference --- then it is like a uniform I put on for that task, lol).
I am mid-40s and my weight has fluctuated a lot over the past several years. Right now I am in the 12-14-16 range. And I am the appliest apple you ever did see. Ugh. Not a great place to be, but it is what it is. I am in weight loss mode again at the moment, and hope to get down at least 10-20 pounds. BUT, strangely, no matter what my weight fluctuations, my clothing size doesnt change that much (because of aforementioned appliness).
Lastly, one thing I see here a lot is "quality over quantity". However, I love having choices and, frankly, because my clothes dont get that much actual wear outside the house most days, it is a waste of money for me to buy something expensive since I'll never, ever get a decent CPW out of it. I am fine with "fast/cheap fashion" like Target, Old Navy or H&M.
Soooooo, I know this is very long so I will just close with this:
I am wondering whether adopting a standard silhouette might work for me, or duplication of favorites, or something. I am also always in a rush, so I need FFBOs ... maybe a whole closet full! I do attempt to find time to try things on in complete outfits, but sometimes just dont have the time, or there is a laundry bottleneck or something. So then I'm back to throwing something together that is just ok.
Thoughts, advice, musings?
