The tank is BLACK -- . The drippy ink is more of a creamy ivory than an optic white. I really liked that about it but it might not suit everyone. The small fit me great (I am usually a 4 on top) but they are cut a wee big in the underarm area -- still, I personally would not have sized down. I liked the overall fit and hips area.
Elizabeth, in other tops I have tried in the past I have sized down, so I think I probably could go with either an XS or a S -- and my measurements put me right on that line, in fact, according to their chart -- but this is all cotton and I want to make sure it is still roomy. That said, the S does not seem oversized to me -- I probably will not put it in the dryer.
