Good afternoon! I got the Leifsdottir dress I posted about awhile back, as well as two other dresses. I'm also including a photo of a recent outfit.
Photos 1 & 2: JCrew Daphne dress in black
I really like the fit of this dress and could wear it to work, church, and on a date.
What do you think?
Photo 3: BR dress...does this look okay?
Photo 4: Leifsdottir dress - I didn't realize it was so fuzzy until I uploaded this morning. I hope it gives you a good idea of the print and fit. Yay or nay?
Photo 5: Express b/w print skirt with JCrew cami. I wasn't sure if this went together, but was rushing that morning and had to go with it. What do you think?
Also, I plan on purchasing wedge sandals eventually as I'm not really keen on the super flat sandals for me.

I think the first dress is divine!
I love the color of the second dress and think it is also great!
I am not sure about the printed dress, I do not think the large print on the bottom is as flattering as the other ones but it could be the fuzzy picture.
I think because it has 2 elements of detail ( ruffles and large print it might work best on a straight body type. I just looked at it again and I could be totally off, it may just be the photo, the dress is so pretty!!(not much help there)
Love the express outfit. The red is perfect on you!! I also like how the line of the sandels relates to the lines in the print of the dress.

Love the J Crew dress - it looks like it fits like a dream. I think the Leifsdottir dress is awesome on you as well as the Express skirt/J crew shirt combo. While I like the basic idea of the Express dress something about the fit in the bust is off. I feel like I can see the shine from your undergarments - maybe you need a cami or maybe it's just the flash???

BTW, I saw this dress at my local J Crew on sale in the Tea rose color (I think it was $79 or maybe $99) - I bet it would look great on you:

Shana, I love that dress you linked to. My store didn't have it, unfortunately. That's such a pretty color. I'm finding (contrary to what I initially thought) that pencil skirts/dresses are much more flattering than a-line on me.

lovely! my 2 cents:

1) jcrew--AWESOME!!! shows off your feminine waist/hips in a flattering, hourglass kind of way.
2) br--very nice. the drape is pretty, and your belt (i think) looks better than a plain fabric one.
3) leifsdottir dress--ok, not sure if the print is the most flattering, IMHO.
4) express skirt--nice design in theory, but not sure if it flatters your shape best. the large, bold graphic horizontal/vertical print and white color tempts my eye to see your bottom half as larger than your top. the jcrew cami looks great!

maybe i'm off, but that's just how i see it loving the bangs...

Sarah, the J Crew dress is great. I tried it on this weekend as well but I don't wear the colors that the dress is offered in well so my hunt continues for a lbd that's not black! The fit on you is perfect!

I'm not fond of the heaviness of the belt with the grey BR dress. The dress itself is very nice and looks good. Do you have any other belts that might work?

I like the Leifsdottir dress. I think it's fun and different. I wonder about nude shoes as opposed to the black, maybe?

I'm not sure what is off for me about the outfit with the express skirt. I like the ruffle cami on you and I like the skirt on you. What about with a belt to aid the transition of the colors, maybe? I don't know, but it's not my favorite look for you. Maybe others can articulate it better...sorry!

Looks like you're going to be having fun with your dresses this year!

Wow! If you're looking for perfection you got it with the J Crew dress! That one is a 10.
After seeing how well the J Crew dress fit the bar is set high and the others didn't seem good enough for you.
The BR dress seems a tad short because of the style of the skirt and because you are wearing heels.
The Leifsdotter dress is very pretty and might be great with heels and a better photograph.
The skirt and blouse outfit is not my favorite. I do love the blouse but don't love print on the skirt. Here the skirt seems a tad long because of the shape of it and that you are wearing flats.
Since I am not very good at these things you should take my opinions with a grain of salt. They are all just gut reactions to photographs.
You are beautiful and it is really great that you took a chance with a new hairstyle and it works beautifully for you.

I like them all - the Leifsdotter dress is very different, which appeals to me. I just think the last two need to be worn with different shoes (vamp issue). Otherwise all are 10's for me!

I am posting this without reading other comments:

- Jcrew dress: Fab, great fit, love it.
- BR dress: very flattering, love it.
- Liefsdottir dress: Lovely print. Somehow the color contrast between the top and the bottom (darker top, lighter bottom) makes you look bottom heavy. It might just be the way you are standing. Care to take another pic?
- Express skirt + cami: I would like to see this outfit with the belt in the BR dress picture. I think you also need something to tie the colors together, like a chunky black necklace or a black and white flower pin.

No joke, Angie. After a miserable summer last year I decided to pick up a few dresses this year. It makes a world of difference when it's 100 degrees outside. Yeesh.
I'm so glad that mostly everything is scoring well. I will try to get another photo of the Leifsdottir dress. I don't think this photo does it justice.
I love the idea of wearing my wide black belt with the Express skirt, thanks! And shiny, I definitely want to get some wedge shoes to wear with my skirts/dresses. They're on my list! And Dani, I tried on a beige crackle belt at BR the other day, and that color went nicely with the dress. I also have a dusty rose patent belt that looked pretty with the dark olive dress, but I thought it looked funny with black shoes. So I might try that belt when I find some nude or metallic sandals.
My work computer died today, and I missed YLF a lot!

The Banana Republic dress looks wonderful on you and is definitely my favorite of this series!

I hope you post pictures when you try the Express skirt belted and with wedge sandals. I think it will look even more awesome!

(I have to say that I'm not used to seeing so much short-sleeved wear this time of year because I'm used to cold, wintery weather until April or May - but then I saw Angie's comment that you live in Austin, which makes WAY more sense!)

Yes, kari, the day before I wore that outfit it hit 91 degrees. That day was in the mid 80s. And now it's back down to the 60s. Our "spring" consists of yo yo-ing between super hot and freezing cold for a few weeks before it just gets plain hot till October.

Wow, 91 degrees. I'm not sure my body remembers what that feels like! (The Pacific Northwest stays gray and overcast and cool through May or June, with occasional breaks - then we kind of skip spring and get two months of mild summer weather.) The fluctuating temperature must make dressing challenging, but it's great that you can break out your spring pieces so early in the year.

Sarah, like I said, I saw that Jayne dress in Tea Rose in the store and it is gorgeous. The fabric is beautiful and the color is divine. It's not a great shade of pink for me (I prefer more of a fuschia) but I remember thinking that it would look great on a brunette with pale skin & dark hair...After seeing how great you look in the black dress, I would encourage you try it if it is available anywhere locally!!

Here's another photo of the Leifsdottir dress. I think it looks much better. My husband hopes that the dress is approved because as he said, he will be sad to see it go. Although he understands that it has to be right in order to keep it.

I've definitely changed my opinions on the dress since I re-took the photos and wore it around the house for a bit, but I'm curious to see if those of you requesting a new photo have any different opinions.
I also have a question about the second outfit I posted. I like the concept, but I"m wondering if the pants are too baggy in the crotch especially. I took the photo after wearing the pants for about 5 hours.

Chiming in very late here - missed a lot of threads last week - but wanted to say how much I enjoy all the pictures. It's so great to see someone wear dresses so well and with so much joy! LOVE the J Crew dress, it looks like it was custom made for you, it fits so perfectly. And I love the Leifsdottir dress; it's so unique and pretty. All outfits are super - you know I like that Express skirt I like the suggestion someone made about adding either a belt or a necklace to that outfit; the red of the blouse is a very bold color and it would be nice to tie it in with the skirt a little bit more through an accessory.
Curious - do you wear dresses and skirts more than pants?

Antje, I used to wear pants 99% of the time, even during the summers here. As I've lost weight, my self confidence has been boosted and I've been enjoying wearing more and more skirts within the past few months. I'd say right now I wear skirts/dresses 4 days a week, and pants/jeans/clams three.
I only own two pair of pants that are not jeans at present because pants are harder to fit for longer periods of time while I'm still losing weight. Skirts tend to fit over broader sizes/weight.
I do plan on trying the Express skirt/orange blouse outfit with my wide black belt. I don't know why that idea didn't strike me before. I also want to get some black peeptoe wedges to wear with it.
I'm glad the dresses are winners. I'm wearing the olive BR one today!

Sarah I love love love your Leifsdotter dress. Thankyou for posting new and more clear pictures. You look fantastic in that beautiful dress. Your husband has good taste!
As for the pants and the question of if they are too baggy, I think no they are not too baggy, but there is some bunching in the crotch area. I read an article posted either here or another blog which showed that sometimes when the pants pattern is layed out on the fabric, the manufacturere will cut a bit off the width of the hips of the pattern and add it back on to the middle seam. This gives the same girth in the pants but in the wrong places, and allows them to get more cuts out of the width of the fabric, and causes that exact fit problem on most of the wearers.

Sarah here is the article on how the manufaturer makes sure that we have extra fabric in the wrong places while saving themselves money.

I'm very late but wow, that J Crew dress looks incredible. The BR dress looks great too. The Leifsdottir dress is a little busy for my taste but it certainly fits you well, and finally I was a fan of the Express skirt on Antje and I like it on you too.
