Dresses & jackets: which one?

I've started the pre-packing process for a one week family gathering (some call it vacation ;-)) in Tenerife. Family is MIL & FIL + BIL w wife and kids + DH and our 3 boys.

Style will be very casual and MOTGish. A blazer would probably be too dressy. I don't want to be intimidating or attract attention by being too dressed up. I'm bringing gear for yoga, walks and swimming.

I'm bringing sneakers, ballerinas and gladiators. All are black.

I'm undecided about which jacket / windbreaker to bring along. I want it to go with dresses in the evenings and walks during day time. Would the safari style jacket or hooded jacket be ok? I don't require great- I'll settle with ok.

#1 the dresses + training pants, gladiators and sneakers
#2 safari jacket
#3 hooded jacket

Sounds like fun, hope you have a great time. I like the hooded jacket best - I think it works better over the dresses & pants. Are the jackets the same weight?

Hmm, I'm torn because the dark jacket seems to go with the dark colors in your clothing and so it doesn't jump out as much--it is harder for me to assess the style with the dark color, though. But, I like safari style for casual vacation looks, too.

Thanks, caro and unfrumped! The hooded jacket is heavier. Sorry for the quality of the snapshot photos. Dark colours are really hard to read.

I'm not which weight you will need - maybe the lighter one would be more versatile

The darker color of the hooded jacket seems to go better with your clothing, to my eye. But the safari jacket also works. Perhaps you should take whichever one feels the most comfortable for the weather. Or could you take both?

The lightest would be good, but I don't think it will matter that much. I'll wear it on the plane so it won't take up space in the suitcase.

Ideally I'd like a super lightweight and tennis ball size jacket, but I don't have the time for a big search or online shopping.

I think the darker green goes best with your dress choices but it's hard to get a feel for the "weight." Going by looks alone, I would opt for the dark green but if the climate is better suited towards a lighter weight jacket than the light tan. Both look good to my eye--very MOTG (stylish.)

I vote olive based off looks (it works quite a lot better than the tan to my eye), but if it's too heavy the other is ok too. That first floral dress is gorgeous on you!

I like the darker green. I was in Tenerife in March once and it was cooler and windier than I had expected, so good move on the jacket planning.

Definitely the dark green hooded jacket! I think it looks great with every outfit you've shown.

What good would a new super packable expensive jacket do, if you're not packing the jacket in any case?

On colours alone, the green jacket. But the safari style looks fine too.

I vote the safari one, sorry to be a spammer, esp if shoes are the one you were taken the picties on. It seems lighter weight and more appropiate for spring-if is spring there on the way to you already(?). Love your dress collection!!!:-)

Thank you all for helping me with packing decisions! I'm so grateful that you help me narrow down the options and also spell out clearer which path to follow (and why!).

I'm taking a dark jacket. I have three options and will decide this evening.

1) The hooded one (which is charcoal - hard to see in the pic!!)
2) Borrow from my mom (dressier and roomier)
3) Or something like #1/2

If I have the time, I'll make a separate post later.
