This is a super long post, sorry!

I set myself a challenge in August to wear dresses (or skirts) 3/5 workdays. Or maybe it was 4/5 workdays. In reality, most weeks I wore a dress 2 days a week, which was a surprise to me - I had thought that I was wearing them much more frequently. Here are pretty much all my summer (non event and not fancy) dresses. These photos span June and July, not just August.

1 - Skirts. Eh, I think I'm ready to pass all of these on except for the last one. That fuchsia number is at least 10 years old.
2 - Grey jersey maxi dress by Eileen Fisher - I've worn this 8 times this year already, and it's a couple years old, and is starting to really show its age. I like this blank canvass of a dress a lot, and am looking for a similar grey dress (and a blue one) to replace it.
3 - Black linen maxi dress by J Jill, new this summer. Love it, wear it a lot.
4 - Bright shirt dresses - I love both of these dresses in theory, but in reality they are too loud for my comfort. Now that I've worn them once this year, I prob won't wear them again until next summer, and need to seriously consider replacing them.
5 - More shirt dresses - The greenish one is a several year old staple, but not a good color on me - time to move on. The black one is new and I suspect will become a staple.
6 - These two dresses have been demoted to house dresses. I wore them both to work and felt too "nightgownish" in them.
7 - Blue dresses - The first is linen (JJ Jill) and a work staple, the second is jersey and a play staple.
8 - Midi hanky hem dress - my current favorite dress.
9 - Modified linen dress - this came with sleeves that were so tight it threw off the whole fit of the dress (last pic of three), so I just chopped them off and now I like it much better. Yes, it's linen, and the creasing is pronounced.
10 - Another blue linen dress - this is not the most flattering silhouette on me, but I always wear a kimono type thing over it, so I don't care because it is crazy comfortable.

Lessons learned:

  • I prefer high quality "blank canvass" type dresses and am willing to wear them frequently
  • The dress must be knee length or below, or I won't wear it out of the house (this is new in the last year or so, until recently I favored quite short dresses and enjoyed showing off my muscular legs)
  • If it is too bright or loud, I am not comfortable
  • Gawd, I lurves me a hippy dippy boho fringed kimono type topper
Well if you read all that, thank you, and perhaps you'll suggest which dress I should wear for a baby shower on Saturday? I'm leaning toward #8.
