Does this color combo work?

I bought this blouse for tucking into pencil skirts. I was hoping it would be more red but it is definitely orange. So does it work with the two skirts I wanted to wear it with? Please use CRS.

Also, I don't think this blouse can be belted with jeans because it's just too short:

I could *maybe* get away with wearing it unbelted. Any other ideas for what I could wear it with, tucked in? And what color shoes would work?

Wow Patience, the blouse looks amazing with pencil skirts. I'd give them both 9.5!

I think that you are right about belting, it looks kind of strange. As for shoes, metallic comes to my mind.

i'm not sure it really works with the belt over jeans - youre right that it might work unbelted. you could also try it with a cardigan over it - it might balance it out a little more over the jeans. love the blouse tho - im contemplating it for myself, actually

Is that the silk Elizabeth halter from J. Crew? I love that blouse on you, and the orangey red is fantastic! Where did you find the color? The first two outfits look great. I also can't belt my blouse without putting a longer cardi or something over it. Have you tried tucking it into pants/clamdiggers and wearing a belt through the belt loops? That might be nice. How does it look when you don't belt it or tuck it in?

Shows off your beautiful shoulders and skin tone, plus the color is out of your box. Seeing it on you makes me want to wear mine tomorrow!

I agree with the above--the color, fit, style of the first two are fantastic. 10! For the last, I agree with your instincts. It just doesn't work belted in that photo. Maybe as a layering piece, as Ana suggests, would allow you to wear it with clamdiggers.

Wow! I give both skirt outfits a 9/10. The blouse looks great with those skirts and the color is unbeleivable on your dark skin!

As for the shirt belted with the jeans...I agree that it does not look quite right, but I think that may be in part to it being a different look that I'm just not used to. Angie did blog recently about peplum style jackets coming back into style. I realize it's not a true peplum, because it's created with a belt, but the tiny waist and flounce it creates reminds me of an exaggerated peplum shirt.

Patience, definitely a 9 for both skirt outfits. As others have said, try a skinny belt or voluminous over your clams or skinny jeans.

Beautiful, Patience! I give the first skirt combo a 9.5 and the second an 8.5. This color is fabulous on you and looks absolutely great tucked with pencil skirts. For fall could you pair it with gray or brown and a cardi? As you said, the top isn't long enough to belt as in the last pic, but do give the skinny/clams combo a try before giving it up.

Thank you, everyone. My eye is just not used to navy bottoms (except for denim) with colored tops and no white or cream. I think my eye was also preset for a black white and red combo for the other skirt. My metallic sandals are too casual for these outfits but I will keep an eye out for a good option. I should have taken a picture of the blouse unbelted. It is very A shaped but I think it worked well enough to wear. Would it be okay to tuck it into jeans/clams? I've also got some navy pinstriped high waisted pants I could tuck it into.

Ana, I saw the blouse at jcrew.com in the sale section but it was sold out so I did a search on ebay and found it. It is definitely your favorite color; I know I'm going to think of you every time I wear it.
