Do you dress to be seen?

When no one is there to see, how do you dress? Just a thought that occurred to me, looking at the rain. In the past, I might have taken it as an opportunity to dress extra crazy/extra fancy... I'm a little lazy now, tho... today I'm wearing camo skinnies and my leopard glasses.

Ha! Just got back from exercise class and so I'm in a black H&M tee, jeans, and a berry American Giant hoodie. When I'm at home I'm usually in pajamas. So yes, I only dress up when I'm going to be seen.

I just finished a 5-mile brisk walking workout, and I'm going to bathe and dress nicely before going out. Yes, I dress to be seen. It's how I was raised.

Yes. If I'm not going anywhere I wear clothing from my 'Relaxed Wear' capsule. I've defined that as clothing I wear when I have no plans to leave the house but could wear for an impromptu errand like picking up a missing ingredient from the grocery store or an unplanned visitor. Usually leggings or yoga pants with a tunic.

At home when I'm not going out I wear track pants, a long sleeve tee and a beat up hoodie - it's clothing to work in a messy studio with, clean the house, cook and it's no harm no foul if a cat suddenly decides to try to ride on my shoulder without giving me a heads up.

In the evening sometimes it's leggings and cozy sweater.

I always put on intentional clothes when I'm leaving the house though, I might get even more adventurous if it's just a short errand as then I can experiment with slightly out of my comfort zone crazy or fancy things in a test run. Even a Walgreens run at 9 pm I'm likely to go with a comfortable FFBO and a matching bag.

Well...I 'see' me...my husband 'sees' me...so I reckon when I'm at home I should dress to be seen

I dress to be seen at home, too. DH pays attention to what I'm wearing and I like that.

It's rare that I'm truly alone. I'm almost always with someone either socially, in the community or I'm with a family member. I always like to feel pulled together. I would even say that my exercise gear and lounge wear are coordinated and and stylish. Probably the only time I'm not is when I'm sick.

When I'm home it's usually yoga pants, a tee and a hoodie or track jacket. I still care about how they fit though and want it to be coordinated.

If I don't dress to be seen I will surely see someone who I don't want to see me looking like a slob. Happens every time.
That said I love comfort. At home it is tank top, yoga pants and a hoodie if cold. Ahhhh

Out in public? You bet - although not in terms of the Kardashian dressing to be seen system. At home if there is no one around and i'm alone - nah, it's whatever soft top and bottom are at hand. I will do my eyebrows though YOU NEVER KNOW - as the saying goes .

I could probably go either way, but I do live in the city so it's an occasion to be seen a lot, even if you go out to do your shopping (by foot, usually). I guess if I were driving everywhere, I'd be less visible. And yet, conversely, it's very very casual/hipster-y in this part of Boston, so you could definitely overdress here too. No one would care, but I might. I do like to put some effort into the relaxed-arty-cool vibe, I suppose. : )

While I try to look presentable enough to answer the door without embarrassment, I dress comfortably in loungewear at home. I dress to "be seen" when I am outside the house. My definition of "to be seen" is just different enough to be interesting, but not crazy-out-there-look-at-me-! "to be seen".

Like many others, I never go a full day without anyone seeing me -- usually at least my kids and my husband do! Most days I go out and I dress for the task at hand. But the odd time I'm at home all day, I wear lounge wear. The key words are soft and loose. (Leggings are not lounge wear for me). I certainly don't wear anything fashionable.

Mind you, my hubs likes me in cozy sweaters or flannel pyjamas, because I look all "cuddly".

I am erratic. I have been known to run errands after a vigorous gym workout, or to duck out to the hardware store in my painting gear. Always when you bump into someone you don't want to.

I have also been known to wear heels and a pencil skirt and jacket to work from home.

Yes, I do. I am "seen" in public almost every day, because I work outside of the home and I am usually out doing errands, etc on weekends. And like Nancy, I live in Boston, which is definitely a walking city which means more opportunities to be seen.

I almost always wear loungewear at home, but that's partly because I have already gotten my "dressing up" fix for the day (and also partly because I am a messy cook/dishwasher and don't want to mess up my nice clothes). I also never wear shoes at home (except occasionally slippers) so not all my outfits would work anyway. On the rare day when I don't leave the house, I find it a luxury to spend all day in cozy loungewear. I suspect that would not be the case if staying at home all day were my norm.

For the record, when I spend all day at home, of course I see my husband. But to me, he isn't people. (This is a compliment, by the way. As an introvert, I have trouble dealing with people sometimes.)

If I don't plan to go out, I still dress nicely, but it wouldn't be *as* nicely if I know I will be going out somewhere. If I'm going to stay home, it might just be jeans and a knit top. If I decide after the fact to do errands somewhere, I would probably add a pair of statement shoes if I could, depending on the weather.

I guess the short answer is, If I'm going out, even if it's just to run errands, I do want to wear at least one item (probably shoes) that would make me stand out. If I don't plan to go out at all, then I do not dress to stand out, although it's still plenty nice in case someone drops by.

At home I am in lounge clothes. Being at home tends to involve jobs I don't want to do with my outdoor clothes.

I try to look presentable at home. You never know when a neighbor will ring the doorbell. Mine do it with some frequency.

When I go out I like to dress kind of nice. Yesterday I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and unexpectedly ran into some ladies I knew. They were a generation older than me. They were all dressed nicely. They had been to lunch and then went to BBB. With my usual jeans, I was also wearing nice boots and a cute jacket. I wasn't embarassed by my outfit. I think this is my standard - not being embarassed by my outfit!

I dress to be seen, even if its only me doing the 'seeing':) It makes me feel good to be dressed 'nicely'. Ofcourse if I am cleaning and doing housework I don't 'dress' but I will get dressed afterwards.

We also have people in and out of our home (church related meetings) so that's another reason that I like to be 'dressed' .

This is all very interesting to me. It's pouring rain and I'm feeling my getup is a little too relaxed or something. On the other hand, I *am* prepared to go outside. What's interesting to me, you've made me all consider more... so here in the US, houses are immediate family for the most part. Parents and kids. I'd see my mum and dad wander into the kitchen in their pjs. They'd be dressed dressed during the day, but still... I mean, even when you move out and get roommates, I think that's the model and you'll get to see your roommates' pjs.

However, my grandparents house was built for more than a nuclear family unit. You were not allowed to come out of your room not capital D dressed. So, lol, I do not come out of my bedroom in anything I can't go to the post office in, just to be safe... without regard to the fact no one is around and the post office is something you only read about in history books.

However, I'm not Dressed. Somewhere in my head I think that means a pressed skirt and blouse, coat, pumps, and a little handbag...

Yes. I spend a lot of time at home in lounge/activewear clothes and pajamas, but often need to pop out with the pup on short notice, which is why I've paid special attention to my loungewear capsule this past year.

I live alone, so at home it is definitely nice lounge wear -it needs to be soft and comfy but also put together. Evey thing else, even a quick errand, I dress in at lestnice casual outfit. Like Rabbit, I sometimes use those errands to experiment with things that are too fancy or too trendy/unusual for me workplace.

Always, unless I am sick or it's late at night. I rarely change clothes during the day unless I am going to a special event that requires more formal wear. Aprons are my friend. Lounge wear is after 10pm on at-home nights and gear is for the gym or sports.

The armour comes off at home Rachy. I guess I dress to be seen or recognised as part of my 'tribe' when outside.

It is amazing the social clues we exude with clothing.

Comfort is king behind my closed doors. Anyone entering those doors, enters my zone. I'm usually decently dressed or I would not go to the door! ☺️ But when I leave the house, I definitely dress to express myself. I work in a small business in the office (few employees and not much foot traffic) so really when I dress for work I do dress for myself. Especially since the dress code is pretty casual and I can freely express my personal style (within reason!)

Yes. Long ago I got the idea someplace that one should always dress they way you would want to look if an old boyfriend suddenly turned up...maybe even at your door handing out pamphlets. A thought I keep in mind I suppose DH would qualify as an old boyfriend and he notices what I wear.
